Thule Pack 'n Pedal basket

I just installed the Thule basket. I did not get the touring rack--I don't use panniers and the Thule deck is expensive. It is working well and seems quite sturdy. I was able to put a mounting block on both sides and fore and aft. The mounting blocks fit into channels under the basket which makes it quite stable. My only concern is the basket rests on these four points, about a half inch above the actual rack, and this could cause some flexing and eventual cracking. It might be possible to slip a piece of plastic or wood under it. The bike is a Gepida Alboin, about 2018, like at this link: http://perthelectricbicycles.com/electric-bikes/mens-alboin/
UPDATE: The aluminum side rails are not strong enough on the ends where they connect. Because they are the top rail, they are subject to stress from bungie cords and heavy bags coming into contact with them. I replaced one basket under warranty, but gave up when the second basket broke. I put steel mending straps with small bolts and nuts on each corner. The bolts have to be ground down. I ripped one pair of pants on a bolt before I did this. It kind of looks like hell, but it works. (2025)
