Throttle with drop bars

My wife is using a drop bar and rides mostly on the hoods.

Is there a way to make a sliding throttle (I.e. flat siding, in lieu of the round that is supplied)? Something that would attach to the inner side of the hood)

I am thinking this is just a variable resistor, but would like to find options if they are out here.

She prefers to use primarily throttle (vice peddle assist mode) so am trying to find a way here.

I haven't heard of anyone putting a sliding throttle on a bike with drop bars, but here is a fellow on YouTube that put, for lack of a better name, a power button on his riding partner's drop bars (DIY small front hub motor and small battery). She only used the motor for hills.

I solved this a few years ago by cutting off a section of a 25.4 bar, drilling a hole through it and mounting it to the side of the right brake hood with a zip tie. Put a bar end plug to finish it off.

I ride mainly in the hoods also and it works just fine. I made one for the other hood for my regen button and watt selector.

I modulate my throttle use via the cruise control feature of the Cycle Analyst display so I mostly ride with it set for whatever watt output I am in need of. However before I had that figured out I used to twist the throttle a little bit so the thumb pad would catch slightly on the hood rubber and it would stay there on smooth terrain and easy to release. Also you can operate the throttle with the heel of your hand if you are right on the hood so you don't have to contortion your thumb. A cruise control feature works the best though.
