Throttle and Brake Cut-Off Wires

In another thread (https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/deity-stem-bars.44001/) I noticed that @Cuz Vinny had removed his throttle and later in the thread he mentioned that his bike didn’t come with the brake cut-off wires.

On the Ultra, does the brake cut-off wire only impact the throttle? In other words, if the throttle is removed is it also safe to remove the brake lever wires? Or, do the brake wires cut the motor if pedaling when the throttle isn’t being used?

Can't answer your question but my twin bike ( well it was until Cuz gussied up his bike ) to Vinny's has no brake cut off function. I have no idea why and don't want to bug Pushkar until things settle down for him. I kinda miss the function . 🤔 I found it useful when making U turns in tight or unstable conditions.

Are they not required for bike operation since some bikes have them and some don’t, or is there some other way it works on the bikes without the brake wires?

Not required to be technically correct.
The MT 5 that magura provided for the US OE in 2021 didn’t have the connectors. 😔

Another example- the dominions don’t have them either.

the MT7 for 2021 have the motor cutoffs. But only for the US market IIRC.

Not really needed ... yeah, but convenient in some situations. Like walking your bike up some stairs and that half second delay in motor cutoff could be shut down with a touch on the brake lever. Or feathering the brake a bit at the top of an incline when you want to make a U turn and do not want the power of the PAS to come on just at the wrong moment. 🧐 We aren't all cowboys like you Cuz. 🤣

You should be riding up those stairs, not walking.😀

I don't feel instant pedal assist, I have to put a little leg in it before I feel it kick in. I don't often start in the lowest gears which might make a difference with that.

heh heh ..I've never been in my lowest gears. Prolly pay a price for that one day. :p I think I've been in the highest gear once or twice just for kicks and giggles. Pedal assist here is berry berry close to instantaneous in middle gears.

Just never had a need for them. I think only one of my bikes has them and I’ve never ran into a situation where I found I needed them.
 
Never have used the brake cut-off wires on my bikes. In fact I am actually using one of the yellow 3-wire plugs of front for my shift sensor connect. The only connections the motor needs to run is the battery, the display of course and the rear cadence sensor input. Don't need brakes, throttle, or shift sensor to function.
On another note the Magura main harness with the red 2-wire connectors WILL work with the yellow 3-wire plugs with the standard set-up. Just gotta connect up the Blk and Blu wires and your good to go. Cut and splice.

That's all great info. I removed my throttle earlier today and have disconnected the brake wires. Now I need to figure out how to get the wires back inside the frame as it appears to be very tight and the wire ends don't want to pull through the opening. The look is so much cleaner without all those extra wires hanging off the front.

On mine I just caped them off and laced them next to the existing ones, don't even notice.I hear you on pulling the wiring in and out. I hate to say it but you might have to pull out MORE than what you want to and pull them in a certain sequence to get them all to fit.
Example: I had to pull out all the electrical/ hydraulic wiring on a boat I used to have to redo the fuel tanks ( that's another story) and pulling the ones with larger plug ends had to go first and then pull in the remainder depending where they went.
Bikes I'm sure will be similar, Certain cables go in certain openings. Like the main harness cable on my bike the cover that caps where they exit the frame is notched because the plug ends are to big to fit. Hydro hoses might have to be raw with no end crimps etc. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Didn't turn out to be that hard. I removed the metal piece that routes the cables from the frame and was able to tuck them all. Only ended up taking about 5 minutes. I cut the brake wires at the levers so they're gone.

Ideally I could now move my dropper to the other side, but that looks to be a lot more involved because I'd need to move it from the other side of the frame.
 
Most of my builds are torque sensor bikes often without the option for cutoff levers or a throttle and I normally remove the speed sensor to dramatically improve ride feel. With coaster brake bikes with a mid-drives levers a throttle as well as walk assist are not options. Walk assist on a coaster brake bike would bash your calf with the pedal. But coaster brake bikes are great for people with hand issues, carpel tunnel or arthritis because they do not need to pull a lever to stop. I will soon be converting a tandem for a mid-drive with a three-speed Nexus and coaster brake. Here is an electric bike I finished yesterday. Zoom in on the handlebar: No levers, no throttle, no speed sensor limiter. Then examples of a slop-shod build Vs how clean a handlebar looks with the extra wires cleaned up.
On the final mid-drive bike it has three wires. 1) Front brake, 2) Shifter & 3) Display. That is because it is a coaster brake bike.

The Zen Garden of getting to less takes extra effort that pays off.
