I would like to get some feedback on several bikes I've been looking at for a step thru in the price range of $1500 - $2000. The four bikes I've determined to be within this range are in no specific order: Ride Up 1 700, Rad City ST, Magnum Ui6 and the Surface 460 Rook. I would be using the bike primarily on paved roads for recreational purposes. I'm an active 70 years old looking to get out do some exercise as well as admire the scenery. Limited mechanical and technical skills which is why I am looking for a reliable company with good customer service. Most of the LBS around me in the DC area sell what I would call high end bikes, however I have located some bike shops in the area that service e bikes. There are pluses and minuses for all these bikes but not having had an opportunity to ride any I would really like some opinions and assistance before ordering a bike on line. Thanks for your responses.

magnum used to be fast in the lower levels on their pas- i do not know if they have fixed this or not
surface was more controlled, they have a torque sensor and i liked it better than the magnum
but that was a couple of years ago and they may have/should have both advanced
zen ebikes has the skunkworks bike coming that will probably be loads ahead in quality compared to your list

Electric Cycling House at Bethesda Metro station are a Magnum dealer, so I suggest test riding the Ui6 model you mentioned, and if you like it you would have a nearby shop that could service it for you.
They also sell the Raleigh Electric brand, you might also like to test ride a Raleigh Sprite iE 2.0 step-through model if you would like to compare a Class 1 ebike with a torque pedal assist sensor and a mid-drive motor against the Magnum’s Class 2/3 cadence sensor plus throttle hub motor.

Lloyd, I (62) and my wife (56) just took delivery of the Aventon Level ($1,599). We live in Ashburn VA and plan on riding the W&OD trail to DC. We have been big fans of riding in DC and along the C&O Canal. We took the bikes out for a 6 mile spin today fo the first time. What a hoot!. They look good, very well made, 45 minutes to assemble. More power than we will need most likely. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I did look at the Ride1UP 700 and the Rad City bikes. I chose the Aventon Level after renting the Aventon Pace 350 in Monterey California in August. ~Tom
I want to thank everyone for their input. Yesterday my wife and I had an opportunity to actually see and ride a Magnum Ui6 at a LBS about 60 miles away. To make a long story short, my wife who has been anxiously awaiting delivery of a Rad City Step Thru fell in love with the Magnum where upon she immediately canceled her order. The fact that the bikes were already assembled and the LBS supports the bike's warranty, etc. we ended up being the proud owners of 2 Ui6's (black and white respectively). Looking forward to getting on some nearby trails and hope to meet other e bikers in the area, regardless of brands.
