Anyone have a SpeedBox 3.0 B. on their Specialized? Interested in your feedback experience.

My 2022 Levo with Brose 2.2 motor. Switched the chainring from 34T to a 36T and have been riding against the 20mph limiter on pavement alot easier. SpeedBox 3.0 B. for Brose is my choice for manually switching from 20mph to 28mph limiter. The SpeedBox allows me to configure the top speed with SpeedBox phone app but I won't ride above 28mph. With the ability to turn on and off the limiter while riding should work for me. I'll update this post when I get it installed and configured.

Today Speedbox arrived. I downloaded the speedbox app. I installed it and tested the speed limit. It failed to limit assistance above the set speed limit of 22mph for my test. Speed warning was off. The speedbox when turned on shows 22.0 which is the speed limit I have set for my test. When it is turned off it shows 15.5 which is the UK speed limit. I have asked how can I set the US speed of 20 to turn on the speedbox. I tried restarting the speedbox app and bike with same result. Why is the speedbox not restricting power assistance above the set speed limit? I have sent these questions to the seller.

Edit: Update SpeedBox and Ebiketuner are looking into if the chip is defective or that speed limit feature does not work on Brose.

I was able to do a short 12 mile ride/test today 60% trail and 40% road. I verified the distance rode was correct between TCU and Apple watch. I am able to ride and turn the speedbox on and off from the walk button. I was able to reach 28mph which is my top speed in 10th gear with pedal cadence of 100. Long term test we will have to see how it holds up. So far happy with the device and would recommend it for anyone looking to get a few more MPH out of their Levo.

Stop the Mission Control app from sharing your information with specialized. Set Location services for Mission Control to Never. If you need to service the bike or update the firmware. First remove the speedbox as recommended, reset the TCU. TCU holds alot of data. This should work to limit the app from sharing your data.

I am sharing my graph from a 12 mile ride I did last week before the speed limit was changed. About 50% of the ride was at or on the 20 mph speed limiter. When I get another ride with the speed limiter changed to 28 mph I will post that graph.

Update: Sent the Speedbox back for replacement. 5 pin connector had a pin that was not completely inserted.

New SpeedBox replacement arrived. Couple notes below. Overall it is working well and have used it a couple time on the road.

  • The speed limiter still not cutting the motor assist off at any set speed limit. Don't know why.
  • The SpeedBox speed sensor connector that plugs to the motor has a very thin white rubber O-ring and it does not hold tight in the motor connector. I purchased a new Specialized speed sensor cable part number S216800025. I took the red O-ring off it and slipped it onto the SpeedBox connector and it fit much tighter in the motor connector. Added some dielectric grease to help with waterproofing.
