Specialized turbo X 2015 vs 2016

Hi guys!

First post here, I'm about to buy a Specialized Turbo X, and I have multiple questions:

1) I'm struggling to find the differences between 2015 and 2016 models. My understanding is :
- they changed the gears from SRAM to Shimano.
- 2016 model no longer has integrated lights
- It will cost around +$1000 than the 2015 model.

2) I'm going to have serious steep hills (+15%), will the 250W motor handle this well? (I'm around 75kg for 183cm)

3) I'm 183cm (6'), what would be the best size for me? M or L? I cannot find any size chart...

4) I'm a software guy, and I'm really interested in the Specialized software to access battery properties and velocity limitations. Unfortunately, I'm not a reseller. Does anyone of you has access to this software and would like to share for analysis? I'd love to see what the firmware looks like.

Btw, I'm in Vancouver, BC, do you know any serious retailer around here?

Thanks for your help, I hope to have my bike soon

The differences are:
  1. 250w motor instead of 200w.
  2. 562wh battery instead of 468wh.
  3. Battery has bluetooth interface to your smart phone to run the Mission Control App
  4. Shimano Deore 11-36T rear instead of XRAM X7 11-32T
  5. Shimano Deore brakes instead of Formula C1
  6. No lights instead of lights.
  7. Suspended seat post
The Mission Control software can be downloaded from the App Store (Apple) or Play Store (Android).

Essentially, at $4,500 (vs. $4,000 in 2015), the new Turbo X has all of the technical features (minus lights) that the 2015 Turbo S had at $6,000 plus it has a front fork and suspended seat post. The 2015 Turbo X was the same as the base Turbo spec-wise except for the fork thus the $200 difference. The 2016 Turbo S got lots more power and battery and even better Shimano gear and went from $6,000 to $7,000. The base Turbo stayed the same and dropped in price from $3,800 to $3,000.

Also, I am 5'11" w/32" inseam and ride a L, not XL. An M would be too small for you.

Regarding riding hills, you can re-gear the front chainring to a 44T from 48T. I know that the Shimano Deore 10-speed 11-36T cassette is the lowest 10 speed. This gearing would give you a range from 1st gear of 34.2" to a 10th of 112" instead of 42" to 122". I have pictures of this on my base Turbo. I regeared from 11-32T and 48T to 11-36T and 44T.

Nice, that exactly what I was looking for, thank you!

About the software, I was referring to the Specialized Diagnostic tool (used by resellers), that allows to see the number of battery cycles, to lock / unlock maximum speed. I'm also interested in the bike's firmware.

I can have an Turbo X 2015 (M) model for $4500 CAD (tax included), do you think it's a good deal?
It's a demo bike, but I'm a bit worried about the battery life / number of cycles...
What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I think a 2015 Turbo X should be negotiated to the same price as a 2016 Turbo + $200. The specs on the 2015 Turbo X are identical to those of the 2015/2016 base Turbo. The fork is the only difference. In other words, in US dollars I would negotiate for $3200USD. At current exchange this is $4480 Canadian. So I suppose this is a decent deal. Do you know what the current price for a base Turbo is? The difference between that and the 2015 Turbo X should be $310 Canadian.

4100$ for the Turbo base.

If you had the chance to choose between the Turbo X 2015 and Turbo X 2016, which one would you choose?

Cant answer. I have a base Turbo and love it. If I could have purchased a 2015 Turbo X for $3200 USD I probably would. I wouldnt spend $4500 on a 2016.
