Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

After 5 or 6 yrs and somewhere over 3k miles, I decided to replace the grips. They were getting kinda tacky and the other day noticed my gloves were sticking to them pretty good, and I always wear gloves. These are the replacements. Feel like good rubber and the heel pad has some compliancy to it. The whole grip feels pretty good really. It is about 3/8" longer. And costs a little more than most others on amazon. And is made in Germany. The picture skews it and makes them look quite a bit bigger, they are not.

Really liking those Wittkop grips. Think they are a little larger in diameter which fits the hand better. Ordered another pair for the Vado.

Installed the Schwalbe Motion Pick-up on the rear of the Como. Now that is a tire! Much impressed with it compared to the oem piece, especially for hauling the groceries.

Looked back at the point I changed the chain out on the como and started using gear oil for the chain lube for a reference, as I was curious how this would pan out. 980 miles when i changed it out, right now 2700 miles of around town riding, hauling groceries lot of the time. I'm easy on equipment. The chain is still not showing any wear on the gauge. When I decide to clean the drive train I garden hose it with a spray tip which cleans everything pretty well. Let it dry and reoil. Between wash downs I use a paper towel to wipe the side plates and rollers then reoil. Use sewing machine oil on the derailleur because it has the spout to reach the pins.
Changed the chain out today, 3860 miles. Started the countdown at 980 miles. So almost 3k miles using 30 wt motor oil. Same gear set and chainring and didn't change them out as I caught the chain pretty early in its demise. Used a garden hose to spray the cassette out every once in a while. Paper toweled the chain, derailleur and chainring. This a 9 spd using KMC chain.

Been happy with both the Como and Vado. Bought back in 2020. Checked the batteries the other day, total miles on both bikes little over 6k miles, both batteries still 100%. Usually keep them around the 50% mark, never more than 80 except to saturate and never less than 20. Surprised and happy about that. Changed the hand grips out on both bikes and new tires for the Como. That's pretty cheap transportation.

Discipline is the most important component of chain maintenance. Wax or oil is a distant second if you don't clean, measure and maintain on a schedule. What chain wear tool are you using? Some are more accurate than others. I prefer the Park CC-4 as cheap and accurate.

Installed a Schwalbe pick-up on the front. Thought I detected better roll when I installed the Schwalbe on the rear. Put one on the front and there is definitely a difference. I think everybody hollering about the difference between power assist and pedal only difference may be attributed to the S work tires, lot of traction soft rubber stuff. Never knew there would be that much difference, thinking the pick-ups would be slower because of the heavier tire wasn't the case.
