Sparks from battery cradle

Hey gang, I was adjusting my battery cradle today and when I touched the hex key to the screw the prongs on the battery sparked... is this just discharge from the electricity stored in the cradle? Can this injure my cradle or controller?

From pictures you posted when you had a bad battery, I thought you were using a dolphin battery. So you have to remove the battery to reach the mount screws on the cradle. Now the battery is sitting somewhere else. It can't be sparking. So maybe what you saw was a spark jumping across the connector at the back of the cradle?

Capacitors inside the controller will charge to the battery voltage and hold it for a bit after the battery is removed. Maybe you inadvertantly shorted the pins somehow during your adjusting. Metal filings? Loose keys? Gremlims? Not enough energy on those pins to shoot spontaneous sparks otherwise.

I'm using a shark pack now. It's slimmer. The sparks come from the charge port on the battery when I go to plug in the charger to the battery, they also come from the cradle, but only if I touch the connector with a metal object. It's probably nothing but a static charge that gets released when it comes into contact with metal, but I'm just worried about the BMS and w/else that can go wrong.

Winter time, dry air, and static. Make it a point to touch the touch the handlebars first to dissipate static?

Always plug the charger into the battery first, then to the wall outlet. When done charging, unplug the charger from the battery first, then the wall.

Don't know why you'd get sparks from the cradle prongs though, they're too far apart for low voltages to arc over.

I'm having the same issue with my Lunacycle-sourced 52V Shark pack (13.5Ah/GA). It never sparked before when plugging in the 3A barrel jack connector from the charger to the battery's charge port, but now it's noticeably sparking.

EDIT: After testing, I've discovered that the barrel jack connector doesn't spark when I plug the charger into the wall before I plug in the barrel jack connector to the battery charge port. Apparently there is some sort of capacitor inside the charger that needs to warm up so as to not spark upon insertion. I recommend that you all try this next time and see if it stops the sparking.

I bought a charger from Luna and the instructions say just that, to plug the charger in first.

Remember those barrels are 2-3A rated. I saw them melting at 5A rates.
