Solid fork mounts on allant8s

I want to take advantage of the solid fork on my allant. What exactly can I attach to the mounts on the solid fork, keeping in mind there is only one brazon on each side. Any links provided appreciatied.

You may be right and I hope you are. There’s a hole in the middle above the front fork, mounts on each fork but none on the top of the fender. So 2 out of 3 I guess. Would be nice if it were the case though. I would love to put the identical Bontrager pizza rack that comes standard on the trek 920.

There’s a hole in the middle above the front fork, mounts on each fork but none on the top of the fender.

My Vado doesn't even have the hole in the middle of the fork and no mounting points on the fender.

My Giant Fastroad EX Pro has a single attachment each side on the solid front forks, and one in the middle which takes the light and fender bracket.

Bear in mind these mounting points are all fine, but there is a max gross weight for the bike (156Kg for rider, bike and luggage in my case; Trek is less at 136Kg) and there will be individual limits for pannier / front rack (22Kg load in the case of my rear rack). I'm not suggesting you'd load all the areas heavily, but as an example a 25Kg bike, a 100KG rider and 11Kg on the rear panniers is the limit of Trek's user manual and no doubt their warranty terms

Just had to go there, didn’t I?
Actually, the only reason there is one there is for the headlight which I moved to the handlebar. I sure wouldn’t attach any weight-bearing rack/basket there.

Just to explain @Dallant my Vado comes from the era of "rigid fork" Vados All newer models have suspension forks.

This really surprises me that there is no pre-drilled hole in the fork crown for fender or light attachment. I guess that is one of the by-products of industry-wide adoption of disc brakes since caliper brakes (which attach to the fork crown) are no longer en vogue.

That does reduce the functionality of adding a front fork rack. You could probably still do it with p-clips or creative zip-tie attachments, but not quite as clean.

Another use would be to attach a second headlight using something like this (Gino light attachment by Paul Components):

The Bontrager looks like it just might work. I have the pre drilled hole in the middle of the fork and this one only needs the one mount on each side of the fork arms.

I allant solid fork lacks the pre drilled hole in the fender and it seems this Bontrager doesn’t even need that according to the pic. Guess I’ll be calling Trek Samos tomorrow.

That’s an oversight in design for a solid fork. Very surprising coming from Specialized.

Basically I discovered Lidl supermarket and their great prices but with my 2 panniers and backpack I still need to make a second trip during grocery runs. So a pizza rack will effectively double my cargo carrying capacity since it adds the ability for 2 additional panniers plus the flat top part.
My allant is a car replacement for me here and it’s been successful thus far but as much as I love riding my allant trips to the supermarket are still a chore and I would like to get it done with one trip instead of two per week. The Lidl is far from my home . That Bontrager you linked to is rated for 33lbs so that together with the rear panniers and backpack I should have enough cargo carrying capacity. 4 panniers , backpack and flat top.

Sounds like just the thing!

I’ve also been reading up on bike touring lately. Granted touring specific bikes tend to be non-electric with simple and easily repairable parts for repairs in remote regions non developed countries etc. But that is extreme touring where riders go to Central and southeastern Asia , sub-Saharan Africa etc.

I’m looking to get into long distance touring in my area around here first; touring around the perimeter of my island and then ofcourse onto the cheap and easily accessible daily ferries to lesbos,Samos, Rhodos and ofcourse mainland Greece and Athens. Maybe even all the islands after a while. One thing is ebikes certainly got me into the great outdoors and I want to make up for all the lost time I spent in glass and concrete NYC.

I think my allant 8s would be an adequate tourer and I should take advantage of the extra cargo carrying the solid fork provides since I am going to get into touring long distance this spring. Greece isn’t industrious Germany but it’s certainly developed enough not to be stranded if something were to break or malfunction as someone would be in say the Central Asian plains or whatever.

And that’s exactly the bike I was looking at recently that made the light bulb pop in my head. I was going to ask them about that too. My frame is a medium I just hope it’s not too long for my frame.

The trek 920 is also my current analog bike crush. If I ever get a non-electric it would definitely be that one , or maybe even the Kona sutra.
