I first try several wraps of pipe thread tape. If this doesn't work, as in the video, I drill out the hole and tap it for the next larger size bolt. Last resort is to drill all the way through and put a nut on the bolt end. I realize this isn't an option in the video. I've never had much luck with Helicoils. Too expensive & difficult to work with.

The copper wire is an interesting idea but you have to be careful not to put too much material in the hole. It's easy to split an aluminum casting.
