Shimano Nexus Roller Brakes with cooling fins - Left Brake Different?

I have a new Electra Townie Go 8I, it has the Shimano Nexus roller Brakes with cooling fins. On my last descent back to my home I am going 10 miles an hour and gradually apply both brakes to come to a stop.
I have noticed the left brake makes a sound of a rim braking-grating sound where the right seems to apply steadily/slowly to a complete halt.

It happens just in coming down a descent which is not that drastic, but it is about a quarter mile long. Any tips or information about this? Are these brakes good for riding/commuting. I will not try this bike for
mountain biking.

The brakes have to be squeezed, what I feel more than what I am used to. I had a Trek Fx bike that had rim brakes that felt more intuitive and responsive. I hope this makes sense. It is the different between the 2
brakes and the waiting for both brakes to kick in. Once it happens I feel like I am hitting a wall. Is this normal? Thank you so much.

In general I have found roller and drum type brakes to be less effective than rim brakes. Spongey on-off lever feel as you describe. I am surprised they use them actually for such a heavy bike.

Good observation. I left a message to Shimano. Left sounds off. Both are being applied still and then suddenly, after steady consistent squeezing I hit the wall. Not graceful. I was expecting the same feeling for both. Thank you for your quick reply.
