I'm thinking about some serious upgrades for my kit bike, the Trek 930 / Clean Republic front hub drive.
How weird would it be, how much weight would I gain or lose, and how much would it cost, to do the following, do you guys think?
1) Get rid of the front derailleur entirely.
2) Replace the crank and drivetrain to kind of duplicate a standard eMTB -- something like the Deore-level gearing on my Motobecane, so it's a 10-speed, rear-derailleur only shifting system.
3) Replace the ancient Girvin suspension stem with Kinect or Redshift. (And what compatibility problems can I expect?)
4) Replace the seat post suspension-- some weird, generic off-brand whatever -- with Kinect or Redshift.
Thanks, just curious if anyone has any thoughts and back-of-the-envelope estimates. Would like the Trek to be more usable for friends if they join me on light trail rides, and the Trek can actually go in the back of my hatchback without removing the handlebars (though disconnecting the front hub is hard with arthritic hands.) So I could take the Trek places for 15 mile rides.
Getting the moto into the hatchback is too much of a PITA, and neither of my cars can take a rack.
