Sacramento will start fining people $207 for riding electric bikes, scooters on the sidewalk

It's a "ticket", and like many regulatory infractions in the USA can be ' fixed '.
Believe it or not.
You write a letter on paper, with a pen, signed in ink relaying your good character and innocence to be delivered by US mail to your judge.
You then meet the judge anticipating dismissal; unless you're too afraid.

And all this time I've gone to the added expense of sending strippers to his house... smh...

Or maybe save yourself all that headache by not riding on the sidewalks.

My standpoint might be made in the name of safety. It would be about what other options are available if I were not riding on the sidewalk? If, for example they were demanding I ride my bike in the immediate proximity of car traffic, with the number of people being mowed down, it shouldn't take too much to document that fact, justifying that you were on the sidewalk because you feared for your safety....

If there were proven safe alternatives to the sidewalk, shame on me for being on the sidewalk, though I would doubt that's the case.

Its a shame humans have to be told not to do this i see guys ripping down the side walk daily, unreal!

There is no reason why bikes and ebikes can not be ridden responsibly on many sidewalks. Obviously on busy metro sidewalks where there are many walking pedestrians it's not really possible to be riding a bike but in those areas traffic speeds are such that bikes / ebikes can be ridden somewhat safely with traffic. We just need to apply common sense which seems to be lacking from almost everything these days - emotions are driving us to stop thinking.

It's a state law in Illinois. No ebikes on sidewalks.

I have to ignore the law to get to my bikepath, as it's either 1/4 mile on the sidewalk or get run over on a 45 mph four lane street.

However in our business district downtown, I can take the streets,

I pick my battles as far as riding on the sidewalk with my ebike. If I hop on the sidewalk to escape serious/dangerous traffic I slow it down. I never hop on if there are people walking in the sidewalk, as they have the right away. So if I get stopped on the sidewalk I'll just accept the consequences. Now.......

Our city just passed a 'full lane use' for bicycles. Let me say that its basically suicide in my area! So I'm going into work on my scooter and all the cars in the right lane are slowing waaay down and whipping around something going slow. As I get up to the offending area it's a kid on a RadRunner, wearing a full face motorcycle helmet, riding like its a motorcycle! Hug the gutter or get on the sidewalk! And I thought the kid on the interstate on a slow 150cc motor scooter was crazy. A kid was on the interstate on a Chinese 150cc scooter doing all of 55mph max, in a section were the MINIMUM speed seems to be 70mph! My wife and I watched so many cars buzz him and ride his butt! Wonder if its the same kid? Blew up his China scooter and has an ebike now.

Over 100 years ago this city banned sidewalk riding by velocipede owners. Then the only sidewalks were boardwalks. Today this city has 5' sidewalks on both sides of all city streets. Riding on walks in the business district is officially still against code but the number of problem incidents is pretty much unheard.

While riding on sidewalks in the residential areas it can be dicey. There have been a few accidents where the sidewalk rider road to cross the street and was hit by a car not expecting a bicyclist to come off the sidewalk. But a few oldsters, terrified by cages and hundreds of dumbshit college kids with their first cage ride sidewalks use common sense and find them to be the safest alternative.

All are now ADA ramps at corners.

In the UK you are not allowed to ride on the pavement (sidewalk), unless it is a designated cycle path as defined in the Highway Code.

Similarly you can get fined for this.

This is the sign near us.

Of course an E-Bike could be ridden in a responsibly on a sidewalk in theory but in reality there are far too many idiots riding around for that to happen.

Regular bikes and ebikes are the same thing here. You can’t ride them on sidewalks. Is Sacramento going to fine regular bicycles riding on sidewalks $207 as well? CN

In our small city our path I'll call it has paved all the way out of state park all the way to the city, which runs into a sidewalk, that goes back into the path.
I am assuming the planers of the path expect everyone to be responsible and just be careful, no sign telling us Adults how to share a trail.
