I have several e-bikes, one of which is a Magnum Metro 750. The bike had just under 800 miles on it when it started to sound like I had gravel grinding in the motor, and then it would just die. I would let it sit for about 10 minutes and then it would be fine for a short time until it did it again. A lot of times if I was up and down hills (nothing major) it would start to act up. The 1st time it happened was a month after I purchased it. (it is 16 months old) and the factory told me it was more than likely the controller overheating and just to let it sit for a few minutes and it should be fine... which I did.
. So fast forward to this year (3 months ago) when it started to happen again... it did it twice within a few days. I called the shop where I purchased it just to find out they went out of business. So I contacted the factory and told them what was happening, and they said it sounded like a motor issue for sure. They gave me the name of another dealer close by and said they would be able to replace the motor for me, A motor that they would "sell" me.
I took the bike in and explained what happened when they said, no way should I need to purchase a new motor because... it happened the 1st time a month after I got it, the low miles it currently has, and (at the time) was only 6 weeks out of the one year warranty. The factory agreed and said they would replace it free of charge... that was two months ago and now they're pushing back saying they don't want to replace it??? So the fight continues.
Does this sound like it would be a motor issue, or could it be something else going on?
