This is an excellent video by someone whom I respect a lot. This guy has tremendous real-world experience, not just bookish, google knowledge.

He shares his insight about this revolutionary design by Shimano and I hope to see it on bike and E-bike systems sometime in 2020.

Brilliant! I wonder how it might work with mid drive motors.

It won't. But will work with hub motors similar to the pinion + hubs that are currently on the market. The video is really interesting and informative. But it makes me want to try that Pinion + hub setup even more. The physical size of the Shimano is a big negative even if the weight is about as much as the Rohloff. The presenter estimates it won't be as efficient as the Rohloff but similar to the Pinion. Cool stuff Ravi.

I've already posted about that transmission on here, bikeradar have a good video, lots of stuff on the internet including the Tube. Looks revolutionary, I don't think it's intended for eBikes yet but would be great on a conventional bike.

Fascinating review. I was particularly interested to find out that pinion is not a generic name for a kind of drivetrain part, it is a brand of gearbox for human pedaled bikes. Never heard of or seen such a thing. Certainly nobody on roadbikereview.com (where I posted previously) would be caught dead even talking about one of those. I bought an S80 IGH from SA and hated it, too much loss in the geartrain. The above video addresses that issue. Fortunately I only wasted $200, not $1900 like the Rholoff.
Edit 11/18: All the pinion cycles for sale have a top bar and most have 29" or 700 mm tires. Only enormous people ride bikes right? Most have steel frames. Funny thing, 70 year olds have enough money to buy what they want, and don't have the flexibility to put their foot up to their waist. See www.cyclingabout.com/complete-list-of-pinion-p-18-speed-gearbox-touring-and-trekking-bikes/
All the options found by bing also had the standard "on your CHIN" front fork design. I've already communicated with a local custom frame builder who will be glad to build me something just like they sell at the discount megastore. Custom fork trail? Absolutely not. Time to upgrade the welder to do aluminum.
