Replacement wheel?

Selling my C380 and we noticed that our movers dented the rear wheel.

What kind of costs are we in for, and could this be an opportunity to put on a better non-OEM wheel?
 
Wheels are very expensive and a wheel repair is expensive, too. You will need in the first place any rim of the same nominal diameter (622 mm for a 700c wheel) with the same number of spoke holes and a similar internal rim width. (An example: if the internal width of your original rim was 27 mm but you cannot find a rim in that size, a 25 mm rim would do). The spokes might be re-used or not. The rear hub can be certainly re-used. Then you need to order the wheel rebuild at a shop. (The LBS person might tell you that you needed new spokes, and that's not free either).

Is the rear wheel useless after being dented? Nowadays, e-bikes have a low resale value. If you spend a lot of money for the wheel repair, you might actually end up with a loss. Perhaps it is better to keep the C380 as a guest e-bike?
 
If it's more of a warp than an actual dent in the rim, you might be able to true the wheel straight again.
(With the other comments in mind, getting the wheel straighter might be good enough?)
 
Here are two photos. It doesn't look like much, but I can't say how bad it really is.

The movers insisted they were professionals with moving bikes, and against my better judgement I let them do it. I found that they basically flopped them on one another in the truck. Broke both front lights but the extent of the damage. They agreed to pay for repairs, and given how careless the one mover was with just about everything I plan to take them up on the offer.

My buyer noticed the wheel damage (I didn't see it), and got a price from REI. ~$200, but 4 weeks lead time on the wheel!

Does this look safe? It rides like normal.

Stefan great point about the guest bike. We were thinking that direction too.

I'm guessing that's about 90% cosmetic damage with no sort of safety concern.
I'd ride ride on it, but I don't really care what my ebike looks like as long as it's functional and safe.

Maybe just accept the money from the movers and reduce your asking price by that amount?
 
I'd pull the wheel, remove the tire and check the inside of the rim. It looks cosmetic to me BUT I'd still check the inside. You should see my rims. They are all nicked up. I'm with PCeBiker as I could care less about cosmetic damage and Im also with Stefan Mikes in verifying the rim is 100% safe before riding. I've had a seam split on a bmx wheel. It hurt really bad when the rim folded.
 
The dealer quote for a new wheel and headlamp was $700.

Paid a non-refundable $100 for the inspection (bike is safe) that could be applied to work.
Spent $10k at this shop on e-bikes.

If anyone wonders why LBS aren't doing well...
 
Presumably a good chunk of that is due to the IGH? A regular wheel it would be cheaper to order a new prebuilt wheel with a DT Swiss knock-off hub than to pay the labor to fix an oem wheel.
 
Yeah I wonder. The other quote (REI) was $225. The light is like $45.

I’ve brought the bike to REI in the past and they did better work, so I figured they know what they’re talking about.

Anyhow, all said and done. The bike is sold and gone. I credited the new owner to repair it.
