Radrover rear light placement

On a stop during a ride today someone in a car pointed out that they couldn't see my rear light due to its being obscured by the fender. The placement of the rear light does seem quite low, but I had assumed it was visible when viewed from a higher vantage point, such as a car behind me. I'm surprised Rad wouldn't have mounted the light higher up. Any thoughts?

If it's one of the later Rovers that came with a rear light, I don't know what you're options are for moving it. Call Rad and see what they say. They may have kits for moving the light back onto a rack, if you have one.

I have a 2018 Rover that did not come with a rear light. I mounted a rechargeable light to the back of my rear rack, and I also have one that I attach to my trunk bag, depending on where I'm riding. They make lights for helmets and vests, etc. There's nothing saying you can't have more than one rear light.

I see it all the time, but I wouldn't want to get into traffic without some kind of attention-getter on the rear.

Looking at a pic of the current RoverI can see what u mean. Brake light needs to be about 3 ins higher . With the optional rack which comes with an extension cable to relocate it doesn’t, have this problem.

Rad should consider a taller bracket for the stock install. Would take no time at all to make one , maybe cable is too short.

I would say your best bet would be to add a rear rack. I went with a Topeak rack and case combo that allows you to mount the brake light on the rack and also allows you to carry stuff from shopping as well as items needed to make emergency repairs.

Thank you for your reply. I’m surprised Rad designed the rear light placement like this, considering the attention to detail that’s evident throughout the bike. You are right, the cable doesn’t have any slack to raise the light higher. I am thinking of getting a rear rack which, like you said, comes with the extension cable, but the racks have been out of stock for quite a while!

You are welcome. You might want to check out this system. The rack fits Rover perfectly and the bag is really nice. The other link is the cable to extend the brake light. I bought the 600mm but I think the 300 might be long enough.

I have two 2016 Radrovers that didn't come with a rear light. I added a two rear lights to my Topeak rack bag and the other to the back of my bike helmet. I figured better safe than sorry. I also have a NiteRider Pro 2200 lumen helmet light for night trail riding. Started to use both lights for my 5am work commute because cars exiting from side street could see me better with the high mounted lights if I'm partially blocked by parked cars compared to the low mounted lights.

Light & Motion Vis180 150 lumen USB rechargeable light with NiteRider Pro 2200. Keep the rear lights in pulse mode.

I also added a light under my rack bag to help with side illumination.
