RadCity direct drive motor

How are you going to up your bike? I like the direct drive motor. I live in Florida. Geared motors give more torque but you lose regen braking. Mid drives I hate because you have to keep the chain up more and replace it more and the rear get to if you run a bad chain to long. When I had motorcycles the dirt bike when through chains and gears like mad. So if you are going to ride on the road or hard packed go direct drive. If you are going to ride in the soft dirt and big hills go with a Geared motor. I started with motorcycles when I was 13 stopped at around 40 had 4 friend get killed in a year by car and I stopped. For the price you can't go wrong with a Rad bicycle. Have a Radcity and love it. Have had no problems with it except what I have made. Laying it down twice bad. I am 73 so I need to slow it down a little. Had it a little over a 1/2 a year and have a little over 1400 miles on it.

PS I down drive my Miata much and have not got a speed ticked in close to a year. Florida doesn't like you if you go 20+ miles and hour and I like it between 100 and 130 the most. If your not having fun you need to go faster.

I'm a snowbird. I spend 6 months in a fairly level part of MI, but there are a few hills. The other is in a coastal are of FL. This area, contrary to much of FL, can only be described as rolling. This are results in a forced compromise. Regen is an awesome, very useful tool. However, the DD hub motors, even big ones, can really struggle getting to the top of these hills. The geared driven rear hubs do work out better here, but they have no regen. No right or wrong, it's more a question of whether you prefer to get there, or stop on the way down!
