Hello,

Quick introduction. First post: My name is Wolfgang and I have been reading this forum for several months now. I have been an avid road and mountain biker in the past and also used to commute for a quite while, but I couldn’t keep it up. 3 year later, I realize that I have to change my exercising habits. Trying to commute again is certainly a good starting point. During one of my frequent trips back to Germany I saw that S-Pedelecs are getting really popular over there and I started to read up on it when I returned. I live in NJ and have not seen a single ebike/pedelec on our streets here.

I have to admit that the idea of considering an ebike made me feel guilty, but then I thought doing nothing is even worse.

During my research I came across http://electricbikereview.com

Big compliment to Court, who is doing an excellent job with reviews and has been helping me a lot to narrow down my choices. I was looking into Specialized Turbo. I really like this bike, but the price tag is bit scary. If you keep looking you eventually end up finding this forum and I enjoyed reading the commuter log of Brambor

That was quite inspirational and I tried to find a local bike shop where I could test ride it. Nobody within reasonable distance was selling them. Knowing that nothing is perfect, I really wanted to buy it local,

My local bike shop is 2 miles away from my home. When I dropped of my mountain bike for service, I saw that they were selling the eFlow and iZip E3 dash. I test drove the eFlow and E3 Dash. Did not like the eFlow at all. To my surprise the E3 was more than half of the price of the Specialize. Now I needed to learn more about it and ended up in this forum. It has been really interesting and educational. I have to admit that it was also scary to read about all the problem with the motor. As much as I liked the bike, I did not need another project. Once the problem was identified and seeing how Larry Pizzi handle the issues, I went for another test ride.

There were a couple of things that I did not like about the bike. I was working with the LBS to get a quote of the bike with hydraulic brakes, different shifter and possible change the gearing. There was not an option to get the hydraulic brakes brakes from the eFlow on the dash. While I was going back and forth with my LBS, Court posted a new review of the E3 Dash 2015 model.

I was sold after that. I like the changes a lot. Really like the new color since my old commuter bike was a Cannondale Bad Boy.

The controller was updated and new shifter and gearing. Currietech addressed all the things that I did not like. It just took much longer to get in my hands than I was hoping.

I picked it up last night and it is a pleasure to drive. The new shifter are perfect and even the brakes feel better than the 2014 model. The new controller is much nicer and does not look so out of place.

Of course I enjoyed PAS 4 way to much when I was trying to see how much faster I could get on a Friday night during rush our to visit my significant other. It is almost 10 miles and can take me easily 45-60 minutes. Using my motor cycle, I was able to do it in 25 minutes. The Dash used 27 minutes. I was in heaven. Got my workout and did good in time.

Coming back, I paid the price and ran out of juice L

This bike should really come with a second charger and a bigger battery.

The 2014 is a great bike, but I am happy now that I waited and hope that I still get some quality time with it until the snow starts.

I want to thank everybody on this forum for their great contribution. You guys convinced me to join the club.

Awesome Wolfgang, now for some upgrades! ;)
Working on it. Rack is already installed and I'm waiting on my fenders. Still trying to figure out which light I can connect to the battery. I guess I need to look for one with built in power switch. Just curious why it is so difficult to get the city kit for. Seems to be the perfect commuting bike.
I saw that you got the second battery. Already contemplating to do the same. Do know how much a spare charger ?
I love you're profile picture. Pretty cool that the dog likes to join you.

No but I want one and will be calling the shop soon, my life revolves around the next full charge and I sleep walk to swap em out. Probably the best upgrade for me, besides the BodyFloat are those 85 psi 38c tires, Pace helped me pick them out and they really help both terms of less rolling weight and a sporty feel, a bit more responsive.

Chris Nolte (and crew), Long Island Electric Bikes, is quite knowledgeable about which lights will work, maybe mine the threads here for that info. -S

I bargained for an extra charger when I bought my bike, but I think they go for around $90. For lights Chris had mentioned the Lumotec IQ Fly E as a possibility when I asked about it in another thread.

I have been looking all day yesterday to find lights would fit. It is not that easy to get lights for eBikes that you can order online. I looked at one that Chris had listed on his website which looks interesting, but it does not have an on/off switch. I found one which has a spec from 6-42 volt including a switch.

I am not sure about the Dash 2014 models but the 2015 model automatically turns the light on or off via the light sensor in the computer. I would prefer to control this myself. The cruise button would be great for this function. Will report back when the light arrives and is installed.

The Fly E is a great light, we also have Supernova lights that work with ebikes. Currie makes it really easy to hook them up as they have the wires there already, all you need to do is fish it out of the frame and hook it up.

The light is actually controlled by the illumination button on the display. A link below describes the light system in more details. I have to really commend Currie in their efforts with this Wiki, it's really great!

Chris, I appreciate your feedback. I wish, I would have read this info earlier. The 2014 model had a light icon on the remote and the 2015 is supposedly controlled by the + button if I interpret the manual correct.. I guess it will makes sense once the light is connected to see how it works. I really like the Supernova you have listed on your WebSite, but I ordered the one from Germany already. :( Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Does anybody know whether there is a hidden menu to dim the light of the display? Came home in the dark and the display was quite distracting.

A few of us have taken to putting photographic filter films over the display for night riding. Would be sweet to find a plastic container top the snaps on the display, instead of using electrical tape or whatevez. Let us know if you find any easter eggs. -S

Since that information was near the FCC suggestions, etc, I suspect that it is somewhat homogenous. In my experience the charger LED turns green at full charge and the charger cools down significantly, battery lights off. If you want to be extra careful and eliminate power vampires, use the timer. I can not imagine how this would be any different than pulling the plug if you are concerned about damaging the charger. Thanks for reporting the price, I'm still pondering the 2nd charger. -S

i was torn between a second battery or the charger. The price for the battery was $600. I'm sure I will get I eventuall, but still need to prove to myself that I used it enough.
The price for the charger seems rather high for what you get.
Hoping to get my fenders and lights soon.

The bike is in the shed over night which is inconvenient to go there for just unplugging it.
I thought to use timer would be good compromise if it doesn't drain it then.
