Hi
im new to the forum but not sure where to post this problem
I’ve had a converted ebike for 2 years and really enjoyed using it .
after bad health I put the bike away for a year and it got damp due to a leak in the garage ..

now to the problem ...after trying to put the bike on realised there was no power ..I tested the battery and it was dead.i put a new battery on and that’s working fine ..but the Nike wouldn’t move ..I bought a new controller and lcd display and fitted these but still no movement of the bike when I twist the throttle ..
‘when I connect the learning wire on the controller the wheel starts to spin as it should ,and when I twist theThrottle the motor stops ..?
‘after I disconnect the learning wire and twist the throttle I get nothing
..please could somebody try and put me in the right direction as to what the problem could be.it would be much appreciated ..
ifthis is posted in the wrong place could you tell me where it needs posting
thank you

It may be the default that the throttle won’t work unless you pedal. You can also try “walk mode”. Usually, you’d hold “up” for a few seconds. One of those, if not both, should work.

It’s good that self learning engages the motor properly. Battery is good and motor are good.

Thank you for the reply
I’ll get to try those things out on the weekend
can that default setting be changed so that when the throttle is is twisted alone it will drive the motor ?

Quite possibly, yes. Let us know what the display model is. With cheaper equipment, some settings can not be accessed/changed.

I’ve found great success googling the model number of the display and adding “pdf” to the search. This typically brings me to different manuals of the same device, but from different vendors. So manuals can very.

Brainpower controllers and their associated displays are a common controller sold in the USA on amazon that use self learning. I've got one brainpower unit that does self learning.

Your display may, in fact it should require you to be in assist level 1 or higher for the throttle to work. If it doesn't work with PAS on, could be a bad controller. Another thing to check though is to make sure your brake switches are not engaged. That will prevent throttle from working. ALso make sure the display is compatible with the controller, If you bought them as a matched pair, they should be, If you bought them separate, maybe not, because they may have loaded incompatible firmware in the display.

I used to have ebikes set up for active throttle no matter whether PAS was turned on or off. I didn't use these bikes that often, and when I did, I found it was a safety issue, always getting accidental throttle starts. Maybe if it were my only bike, I could learn throttle safety habits, but it was better to disable those throttles.
