Pedals Locked to Rear Wheel - if Rear Wheel turns, pedals turn

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Hub Motor.

I don't know what you call the set of gears on the rear wheel, but on the old setup they could stay still while the wheel turned.

On the new hub motor they are locked so that if the rear wheel turns, the pedals turn with it. This can't be right?

It means I could never rest my legs, they would have to always be moving with the pedals?

I know it's a little late, but the hub I have has a 7 speed freewheel. It should only engage when peddling.
It sounds like you replaced your hub some way. Either the freewheel is rubbing on the hub; i.e., the largest sprocket
is touching or the pawl in the freewheel is defective. Riding with the freewheel jammed would be dangerous.
