overheating

I have had problems with two different ebikes overheating while going up the same big steep hill on a hot day and it shutting down for 20 minutes or so. Does anyone know what is overheating? The motor? The controller? Or the battery?

If it is the battery, would it be okay to change to my spare battery (I have two) and keep going up that hill? Or would that overly stress the motor or controller?

Have you touched the motor, the battery, or the controller? If the motor is getting hot, it's not very efficient. It's making heat, not power. That stresses the controller and the battery. You can pedal harder. I'm assuming this is a hub motor?
