One Advantage of the Diamond or Top Tube Frame

I notice when looking for ways to carry things on my bike the diamond frame has a great number of bags and accessories made to fie in the opening formed by the diamond shape. Hanging a bag from the top tube for example and I also notice begs that fit the V in the front. I like this concept as it gives another large space for stowing gear. I was also thinking of designing a bag that could hang from the cross bar to store an extra 36v battery pack. I don't think anyone makes one commercially but shouldn't be to hard to make utilizing velcro straps and some sewing. Just need to find a bag large enough and the rough shape to start. I know I cold put one in the rear rack bags but want them for other items. Anyone tried this or similar way to carry an extra pack?

I got one of those triangle-shaped bags to go in that space. Seemed like a great idea, and it really is, except ... I have a large battery, and the bag wouldn't fit. No regrets about the large battery! There are so many other storage options, I just moved on.

My battery is mounted on the rear rack so thinking a bag in the space under the top tube would be a good place to store the spare...

Hey Dave thanks so much for that link, that is exactly what I was thinking of, I appreciate it. Jerry

You' re welcome! I don't have one, but I will soon, for sure. Saw it on a Crazy Guy On A Bike touring journal and had that Aha! moment for ebike batteries. Freaking thing looks perfect

There are lots of DIY frame bag projects.

One reason I'd mention making your own is that you can customize the bag design to fit your frame and the available space in your frame. One other reason to make your own is that the "tubes" on many e-bikes are weirdly sized and proportioned and the velcro in standard frame bags often will not fit around the tubes.

If you do buy a frame bag, it is best to buy from a bike shop where you can try it on for size rather than ordering on-line. Another thing to watch for is that if/when the velcro gets wet and dirty it can scratch the heck out of your frame.

I was kind of wondering how the velcro straps would act on the painted tube, but what's the alternative. Was thinking maybe a clear protective film?

I use Lizard Skin Clear frame protector for my ebikes on the top tube and the downward facing part of the frame near the ground.

Lizard skin clear large, Amazon, $15: https://www.amazon.com/Lizard-Skins-Clear-Adhesive-Protector/dp/B01DH219VQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539178703&sr=8-1&keywords=lizard+skin+frame+protector&th=1&psc=1

Pic of the Lizard skin small frame protection I used for the top tube of my Radrover eMTB with Luna Cycle Triangle bag. I was kicking the top tube too much mounting the bike and didn't want to scratch the paint. Its been on my ebike for +2 years and no signs of wear/tear/fading/peeling.
