Hi all newbie to the site.
I’ve come to the time where my hips are playing up been a mad cyclist for ever so not so good on the peddle power anymore I’m a 67 year old guy who still loves to cycle. So I decided on getting a ebike bought it 2nd hand it’s a cube with a bafang 750 mid drive motor with peddle assist great bike lots of power well do me anyway. So guys my question is can I fit a throttle either twist or thumb throttle to my bike if so how do you actually wire it in. Any help or guidance on this would be so appreciated many thanks Kevin

Is it a bbso2 motor?
It should have a plug near the front of the bike on the main cable, the throttles are very cheap

Hi it’s a BBS02 motor and I bought a twist throttle and a thumb throttle both 3 pin tried all cables that’s near handle bars coming from the main wiring loom but no good nothing seemed to happen. And thanks for your reply

Do you have unused cables coming out of the main harness cable?
Yellow in color?
Send us a pic of the mains cable setup

Your BBS02 is definitely throttle ready.

Yes I think there are 3 unused cable from the main harness all yellow 3 pin tried one make and 2 female

Sorry all yellow one cable is a 3 pin male and 2 other yellow cables both female also under the bafang motor there is a 4th cable also yellow female 3 pin

I was just riding my BBS02B bike today in the wind. Throttle is pretty handy when it's gusting 18 mph in your face,

This is the standard BBS02B/BBSHD harness used in the kits. I believe Bafang changes the gender on the throttle connector. It uses male pins at the harness, but most generic throttles want to see a female connector. You probably stuck your throttle into the brake connectors, which are female.

So your male connection should be the throttle. I presume your other two are connected to the brakes?
If you connected a female throttle plug to the male plug on the mains and it didn't work, it's very possible that your throttle is disabled or set to "0". I suspect that is true since your bike did not come with a throttle. In that case you need to configure the throttle, which is actually easy but you will need your windows computer/laptop and:
This programming cable (found all over Amazon) for $10-15.

Then you will need to access the internal controller software. See Bafang Programming Instructions. One you understand the process, I find this web-based solution easier than downloading and installing any software or drivers: BafangWebCFG. It's just plug n play.

Heed the warning to first save you current configuration so you can reinstall it if need be.

Basically you will be editing the THROTTLE tab in the software, which may currently be set to "0" right now which means your throttle will be nil.

You will want to set it to "Display", then it will be the same as what is set on the display’s current settings.

Read the Tutorial, it explains everything straightforward, very easy to do.
Here's a Youtube Video Tutorial. Programming the Bafang

I believe the Yellow plug near the motor is for a Shift Sensor or light.

Hi and thank you so much for your fantastic alot of information you have giving me. But looks like I’m gonna have to give my bike to an expert cos all that computer jargon has just gone over my head. But again thanks for taking your time and massive input to my problem. Many thanks Kevin

Well, before you get into settings changes, were your two throttles the right type? They must be a female socket, and I'm not sure that a gender adapter gives the right pinout.

Also buy an actual bb0s2b throttle, not just a bafang throttle, as they may differ between the hubmotor and the midmotor,

I did change my BBS02B from throttle always on to only when PAS was active. Seemed like it was just only one pulldown box to change, but it was a while ago,

Thanks great help I’ve just ordered one now off amazon as you said it’s a bbs02 I’ve orderd thanks for your help will let you know how I get on
I should have asked this question first:
When you plugged the throttle into the male plug, and tried the throttle, was your PAS setting on the display at "0"?
Did you try the throttle when the PAS setting on the display was at a higher number?
The Throttle may be set to not work on "0", but kick in on the other PAS levels.

Now that you mention it power assist was on one not zero as when I turn on the screen it automatically goes on one. Does that make a difference or is that the reason the throttle did not work

No that is normal. There is a seting that controls where your PAS starts when you turn it on. If it was in PAS 1, the throttle should have worked, unless it is set to 0/off in the controller

It's really not hard to set up and make changes to the BBS02B controller... and there's plenty of us here to hold your hand if you are interested.
But as you are doing already... Make sure you are using a Bafang mid drive throttle which should look like this 3 Pin Female

One of the best features of the BBS02B is being able to customize all the settings to your riding style.
Even easier than the PC software or web based application is an Android phone using the SPEEED APP.
It's no longer available on Google Play for some unknown reason but I saved the APK file.
Believe me when I tell you that a well tuned BBS02B is much more refined than the factory settings.
Let us know if you are interested and we can walk you through the process.

Thank you for your message it’s good to know like yourself there are people out there willing to hep others many thanks for that. Ile wait till my new throttle gets delivered as I ordered the one for bbs02 and Wele go from there I’m not very comfortable with computers. Tech etc took ages to master my mobile phone. Haha. Anyway I’ll let you know how I’m getting on. Many thanks kevin

ILLEGAL in the UK

If you are caught good luck

Of course, if you HIT someone or even a car and it is found, you will be prosecuted. Also any insurance you have is VOID.

One other consideration is whether or not the controller uses the older UART communication protocol or the newer CANbus protocol. I don't believe they call the CANbus version a BBS02B but something like the M325. They look identical so the easiest way to tell is to look at the display connector.

If it's round it is UART and can be programed.

If it's 5 sides it's CANbus and can not.

Both use the same throttle so no problem there.

You're good to go then!
Believe me if you like it now... You'll love it tuned as you can trim some of the aggressive acceleration and make it feel a bit more natural.
You'll need one of these in all cases. Laptop w/software | Laptop w/web interface | Android phone w/SPEEED App

And add one of these that match your phone if you want to use the Android phone/SPEEED App.
