Noise from inside crank hub area when testing through gears.

I have yet to ride my 700, but whilst testing my derailleur and indexing, as I cycle through the gears I hear a noise emitting from the crank hub area only in certain gears. Is this normal? The sound isn't coming from the sprocket. cheers

Good point. I will try it with chain off.
It would odd though for the crank hub area to emit noise only on certain sprockets wouldn't it? This is with the bike raised off the ground.

Sound is coming from the chainring, primarily when in gears 3,4 .
