No shift detection on Brose moto

Hi. I'm in New Zealand and just bought two Specialized bikes. The Como 3.0 for the wife, and the Vado 4.0 for me. Apart from a quick test drive, it's our first experience of E bikes. Will get them in a weeks time. I've been watching reviews and have one "concern". The reviewer mentioned to ease off peddling when shifting gears as the Brose motors has no shift detection, and might cause damage.
I'm so used to not easing off while shifting on my MTB that it'll take some getting used to. I'm even more concerned for the wife's bike.
Am I overly concerned? What is the right procedure when shifting gears on a Specialized bike?
I've paged through the forum topics and haven't seen any mention of this, so not sure what to make of this really.
Any input will be highly appreciated.

I find easing off and changing gears while in the dead zone of the crank rotation when your pedals are at 5 & 11 o’clock helps to reduce gear mashing

Just learn (and teach your wife) to briefly pause pedalling when shifting, or to ease up on the pedals while shifting. A loud "clunk" from the derailleur means shifting was done under load (wrongly). The same applies to all bikes (electric or not) having a derailleur.

... just takes a little riding to integrate the Brose/Specialized computer with your cerebral computer. In a short time you likely will unconsciously adapt to the PAT power algorithm and no more clunking...

.. misapplied power when shifting on analog bike has broken more than one chain or derailleur
..

have fun

As it seems you and your wife are experienced cyclists you will soon figure it out. You might grind a few shifts but unless you are in a racing type situation the momentary let up of your pressure on the PAS, on some eBikes the slight amount of over run will make the shift for you, that is then reapplied will not cause more than a slight hitch in your giddy up and the beauty of eBikes is that ease of quickly getting up to desired speed. Certainly nothing to stress about.

Cheers and enjoy the new bikes.

WoW thanks everyone. It just dawned on me that i'm not an experienced bike rider...more of an ignorant one.
Thing is I grew up riding the 3 speeds (who remember those :p) with the internal drivetrain and it was common knowledge to ease off (or even back pedal some) when shifting gears. Somehow Somewhere when the external drivetrains appeared I got it into my mind that it's not neccesary to ease off while shifting anymore.
Now thinking back I never second guessed that. Always just shifted as my mind told me...weird.
Never did cycle much though. Grew up cycling all the time..as kids do, but when the motorbike appeared that was the end of cycling. Got the MTB some years ago, but never used it much. I'm selling it now and the plan is to change the lifestyle and use the E bikes regularly on weekends and holidays.
Needless to say, we are over exited of the prospect. So many beautiful relaxing trails to do here in NZ.
It's a damn big investment to. Apart from the bikes we had to buy another car (light SUV) to carry them. Then comes the rack..and ofcourse the shed to store them. Also helmets, panniers and small accessories
Ah well it's for a good cause..as the saying goes.
I'm glad I asked the question and you people corrected me. I'll concentrate and train the wife to. You people potentially saved me some money and for that i'm thankful...👍
