I witnessed a bike accident. Guy who was joining my cycling group on Tuesday night. We were sitting in the parking lot, had not even started yet, most people had not mounted their bikes yet. He just fell over, broke the mirror off his bike, got scraped-up. He was wearing clipless shoes/pedals and didn't know how to unclip or maybe just forgot.

He has a high end carbon racing bike but he's a newbie. I later heard he refused to take direction in his beginner group, would speed up way fast ahead of the group, then drop back to 7 mph and basically refused to learn anything or at least follow directions. The event hosts were very frustrated as he was making their jobs a whole lot harder and ruining any kind of set pace for the other beginners, with attempts to keep an average pace and most importantly keep people together in a line. I was glad I had opted to join the middle group that evening.

So exasperating, people who don't follow the herd!

Hope he gets feeling better and out riding again soon.

He did ride immediately. He wanted to ride in a group/pace line. But then wouldn't. <shrug>

BTW our own Secretary of State, John Kerry seems to have broken a femur (big upper leg bone) on a bike ride this am in Switzerland. Thought cycling was a bit more safe in Europe!

I thought I read he broke it while riding one of the sections of the TDF and then was transfered to a Swiss Hospital.
