Newbie from the DMV

It's a Reention battery case which is a mainstream case maker. You should be able to find another battery builder that uses that particular one.
Back to hazmat shipping ? Seems to be a real issue for some members ...
Asked the battery rebuilder about it. Waiting for response. Instructions regarding packing and shipping seemed straightforward. Only hazmat-type warning was to ensure ground transportation was used. Later in the instruction it said to ship it via UPS and if they refused to take the package, go to the USPS. Will be a week or two before I send it. The ~$500 charge is tough to swallow knowing Dost promised to deliver a unit my way as part of the warranty. Frustrating….
@Jenny Mao might be able to help.

Yeah. I'm sorry about the cost, but I'd heard similar from others. Here in Pa. it's aparently worse, to the point where some folks just throw it in the closest creek and buy something else. At least you have options.

That battery is proprietary as hell. They lied about those cells. Cheapest generic, not Samsung as stated. That shows premeditated intent to defraud and then to go bankrupt. I will bet they never had any geo located verified user reviews on google maps. That is a must. Just their website which they could edit. The stated battery maker is considered counterfeit by my browser so I am blocked. Solution: Find a local reputable independent eBike builder. Have them install and splice in a high-quality external battery using premium cells, premium BMS (battery management chip) and to do it in cleanly, sealed from weather. In my neighborhood, I do this regularly. Sometime I help folks to order on their own a cheap battery just to sell a bike and move on. And I give them detailed instructions on how to do it cleanly and safely. That consultation is all in person and local. Ask your neighbors. The more local the better.
@PedalUma , don't forget that not all of your customers are local. You'll hurt my feelings...

I’m back! Thanks for all the advice everyone. I appreciate it. So, I found a local eBike service technician (HS Sr who started a side hustle during the pandemic) to avoid potential shipping issues. He rebuilt the battery.

My son and I took it for 3 spins over the last several days. The verdict? The range went from under 2 miles to ~18.5 miles using level 3 (out of 5) pedal assist on terrain with some hills, but mostly flat. Obviously, for a 48v, 18Ah battery w/a 750W motor, this is unsatisfactory.

Assuming the battery refurb is good (and I do BTW), I understand the controller, wiring, and/ motor windings c/b the culprits.

Next step? I found a brick and mortar shop specializing in eBike repairs. They’ll do a complete electrical diagnostic for $80. Depending on how much they estimate the repair to be, I’ll either bite the bullet and get it fixed or sell it for a deep discount.

More to follow!
