Has anyone got experience with these and what are your thoughts on them.

I can't help with the Ortlieb but I have the Basil bag.

I like the MIK mounting system and the bag itself is well designed. The fold out panniers are larger than most but aren't suitable for heavy items, like spare batteries or heavy tools. Like many other similar bags, the zippers are a weak point. They need to be treated gently and kept clean. I use a wax based zipper lube every few months on mine.

Ended up getting the Basil Sport Design Trunk Bag.

As I wanted to use it with the Ortlieb Bike-Packer Classic Pannier Bags, I‘ve added some stainless steel pannier rails. Only temporarily fixed with cables ties. Once I‘ve finalised the position I‘ll fix them in position with some bolts.

But in the meantime, not too bad.

As I’m happy with the position of the pannier rail it has now been fixed in the final position.

A couple of stainless steel bolts through the rack frame. A couple of plastic spacers and some black heat shrink over the stainless steel tube. Now looking neat and tidy as well as rigid and strong.

@DiggyGun

Sorry my bad, clumsy fingers a small phone screen as well as dirty glasses are the excuse for trying to click on one thing and actually clicking on another by mistake while working on my Christmas light display and not paying attention. Did not mean it.

No problems. Hope you got your lights sorted.

That project takes a while, every year i keep changing how my lights controlled by WLED behave and keep adding more lights... never ending story and when finished my house will look like the Griswald`s have moved in...

Bags are nice OTH expensive,I use Huffy plastic tool boxes and have used the plastic ammo boxes for panniers,.The best panniers I ever had( never had that many) were the ones "Lectric" vends.

I have the Ortlieb trunk bag and find it brilliant. The adjustment is simple and grips the rack very firmly &

I have the Ortlieb trunk bag and find it first class.
It’s easy to adjust, grips the rack very securely and is easy to release.
it’s simply the best trunk bag I’ve had (and I’ve had many!)

I’m making a change to the trunk bag.

Going to sell the Basil Sport Design, although it fits perfectly on the rack, the actual bag moves and bangs against the rack itself. On bumpy tracks this is quite irritating.

The Basil bag is now on eBay and I’ve ordered an Ortlieb E-Trunk bag.

This stands higher on the rack, so there should be no noise.

I’ll report back once received and used on the bike.

Update;

I’ve been using the Ortlieb E-Trunk Bag a while now and can report that it is very good.

Positives;
  • It fits solidly on the rack and doesn’t move
  • Build quality is excellent
  • It’s works well with the Ortlieb panniers with no interference
  • It fits better than the Basil Sport Design Trunk Bag. Being further away from the actual rack, it is quieter as it is not banging against the rack on bumpy trails
  • The elastic is good for holding maps
  • Fitted the Garmin Varia Radar to the water bottle bracket mount

Negatives;
  • Being a large storage area, had to add some foam inside to stop some items moving and rattling
  • On bumpy trails the magnetic clip could come undone and flap. Stopped this by using a piece of elastic to keep it shut. Never happened since.

Overall, very pleased with it.
