New speed shifter and derailleur

hi,

i have a ecotic hammer, and have basically replaced almost every part on this bike successfully. I recently had to replace the motor, so my existing shifter and derailleur was replaced to 8 speed, but ive had nothing but problems with this .

the local bike shop installed an 8 speed shifter and 8 speed deraileur. the new shifter is a 8 speed shimano sl-m315 and the derailleur is a SunRace M40 Rear Derailleur 8 speed. no idea whey they mixed and matched. can you anybody recommommend a good shifter or derailler for my bike, as not happy with current system as shifter will not shift gears at all.

Well I got 8000 happy miles out of SRAM S3 derailleur which has now been replaced by the X3. The X3 won't downshift now. I suspect cable friction is the cause since I ride a stretch frame cargo bike and the cable is extra long. I use a SRAM 8 speed twist shifter, since the shimano thumb shifter on the previous bike caused a 8 cm x 1 cm cyst over my thumb joint . I have also used a Sun 8 speed twist shifter, which worked okay but only lasted 18 months.
My sprocket cluster is shimano 8 speed and has lasted 9000 miles. I replaced the chain for 100% stretch at ~5000 miles.

8 speed is the issue all thats made for that is the cheap stuff. I would look for used shimano 8 speed deore parts not too expensive on ebay. the shifting will be miles better like this guy.

Funny, the 8 speed shimano cluster & axle lasted 9000 miles so far on the bodaboda. The 7 speed shimano cluster & axle on the Pacific MTB spun out the race and dropped the balls about 3000 miles. ****ese ****.

ya its the only way to get better. plus the shifters are so much better then what you have. 10 speed you have a lot more choices but that wont work for you. I would check local shops they may have them used or left over.

High-end shifters do not have indicators. Riders shift by feel. I still don't know if we are talking about a freewheel or a freehub.

This is what a better shifter, cassette of gears, and derailleur looks like. It is on a mid-drive, that means that the motor can be run through the gears. so it can climb and accelerate with mechanical advantage. No hand throttle is ever required. Pedal pressure is the accelerator. Just like an electric car. Push foot, go.

thanks, im also looking at the sram ex1 horizon, Shimano Deore XT RD-M739 8-Spd is quite old (1995) so looking for something more modern. im wondering will ex1 it work on my bike, after doing some research seems they are only suited for mid drives with the sram11-48 tooth 8 speed cassette, so this might be overkill so not sure if it will work on a standard 11-48 tooth 8 speed cassette ( which have) which shifter and derailler are using?

older shifters wont matter with your cassette I don't think its to like it is modern its self.
