New "N380x" model from Nuvinci (up to 500w rated)

Seems Nuvinci have listed a new "N380x" model on their site.

Key points are:
More durable (housing around the spoke holes look significantly beefier)
Rated for up to 500w and 100nm torque
Thru axle mounting options

Claims to be compatible with electronic shifting / H-Sync. Whether this could be a drop in replacement with the same shifter mechanism is yet to be seen.

No mention of this new hub elsewhere on the web. Picture below in case their web admin has jumped the gun:

That is great news!
It also support a wider range of dropouts (142 / 148) and thru axle.
Cant find the chainline value though.

For a given amount of power, it will depend on the gear ratio used for the chainring and the sprocket. But yes it is possible that given a chainring / sprocket ratio good for the max speed, the lowest gear ratio of the NuVinci would still be too high for the power of the bike.
This is where the 380x is interesting. In itself it does not change the ratio issue, but it allows you to use it with a more powerful motor which would solve the issue you encountered.
More power meaning the ability to climb that hill on the lowest NuVinci ratio.

up to 100 N-m is excellent, I feel like at that kind of torque it could actually handle a lot more than 500W of power. Hopefully they offer it in a proper 170mm width as well...

I contacted NuVinci a few weeks back to ask if they would consider making it work for Fat bike dropouts, and the answer was and absolute no.
