New ebike

Hey, I have an Ancheer folding bike too. Love it, actually. Used it for commuting on the SMART train to San Rafael. For $799 delivered, and tuned up on-site by a mobile tech, it's pretty hard to beat. It lasted me two years of consistent riding (other than the weird tires, which I replaced with Kevlar-lined tires). Then the battery died. When I replaced it I could never get back the same power- but only on the high end. After that I replaced the controller, then the rear wheel (motor) and still can't get the same power in pedal-assist in the high range. Works great low range but really lacks power in the top gears. And I rarely ride in the lower range. I have a new cadence sensor I'll replace this weekend and hope for improvement.

My suggestions to a newbie:
1) Wear a helmet- you never know when you're REALLY going to need it
2) Situational Awareness: always know what's going on around you
3) Drivers don't understand e-bikes; you're often approaching them much faster than a regular bike and they'll pull right out in front of you
4) Use LOTS of lights at night - huge mistake many riders fail
5) Respect traffic laws (mostly) - extraordinary behavior/events cause confusion and collisions - there are many inexperienced drivers out there
6) Enjoy the ride! Especially now that gasoline (here) is approaching $6/gal

I am in Petaluma and Ride SMART. Are you Cotati? I love it and rode SMART with a bike today. In about three weeks there will be baby swans at the lake farm. That is one of my favorite views on the whole route. I also like the trees that grow sideways by there. Zoom in on Petaluma's Eastside on Google Maps sometime and search the word Bike. If you look me up I will have you ride one of my bikes for fun.

Hi, I'm actually in west Petaluma. I stopped riding SMART when I changed jobs to be closer to home. Beautiful ride, though, I miss it!

I just replaced the cadence sensor and that seems to have helped my high-end power problem. Still not perfect, like it was, but better. I think I'll swap the original controller back in there and see if that changes anything.

There is a group ride the first Friday of every month at 5PM from Walnut Park. Good job with the repair. Make the gap the thickness of a nickel. It needs to be 1.5 to 2mm. You are the first on EBR that I have found in our town. Look at Cool Petaluma's website and contact D'Lynda. We are working to get better bike infrastructure and need the input of regular people and not just the same bike nuts.
