Yesterday, I surprised my girlfriend with a new bike. Instead of a fancy weekend getaway or gifts, I gifted her an electric bike! She was so surprised and she couldn't believe it :)

I feel biking together is a great way to enhance bonding. She doesn't do much biking, so I got her Neo Volt Sport by Easy Motion. Now, we can go on Sunday rides together.

This is a folding bike that looks sleek and very powerful for a bike of its size (carries the same motor and controller of the Neo line). It has 9Ah battery that is plenty enough for going to school, errands and going around the city. It has a very clever kickstand that tucks into the frame. Also, hydraulic disc brakes and smooth shimano micro-shifters for excellent climbing ability.

She is really happy and its healthy for her in the long run.

So, what are the downsides of this model after having it for a while? Please be critical, even if you still love it!

While I had it, it was a very nimble, capable, compact bike.
I had sell it for other reasons but here's what I think are it's downsides.
  • I had trouble finding a compatible rear rack (was able to get one finally, but it wasn't straight forward)
  • For anyone above 5' 9'', this geometry is going to suck.
  • It's more of a compact bike rather than a true folder (it takes more than few minutes to fold it and you need to remove the seat psot).
  • It does come with Hydraulic disc brakes and I wish it had fenders but I added some SKS fenders.
  • They reduced the price from $2600 to ~$1500 and I know some original owners were pissed about that.
