My Diy journey begins!

Looking forward to your review of the kit. I have a cruiser type tandem bike that I wanted to add an assist motor because my wife can't pedal hard anymore and we have ridden it mostly in on a very hilly route. I was going to sell it but my wife asked me to keep it so I ordered a 48v 500w rear geared hub motor kit from Amazon. It had a 22a peak current controller so it should have provided 1000w peak like the Dillenger and the seller stated it had a 4.5:1 reduction. Unfortunately it was lost in shipment and never delivered. Even more unfortunately and understandably a 3rd party Amazon seller doesn't want to pay for return of a 48v 15ah battery that I ordered for the kit - Amazon has assured me in writing that they will force a return with the seller paying for shipping. Will see how that goes. Depending on your experience with the Dillenger I might order that kit if the sales price is continued.

It will be a while before I get to the build. We leave a week from tomorrow in our RV for a 6-week trip to Tucson. We go every year for the great weather in Jan/Feb there. I haven't seen the delivery info yet, it's to be picked up by UPS today but since it's coming from Orange County, CA I expect it to arrive in San Antonio area on Tuesday. Though I'm anxious to get on to the project I doubt I'll be able to do that in the few days before we leave.

Sorry to be of so little help. If by some miracle it arrives on Friday I'd probably jump right in on it. But I'm expecting 4-days for shipping including the weekend. I am getting the bike all ready to go before the kit arrives.

Nice, enjoy your time in Tucson. I did some riding around Tucson when I was down there last spring including Mt. Lemon and Saguaro NP.
I hope your build goes well for you.

Still in Tucson and loving the bike and bike path here. I have not done the mountain roads, but stayed on The Loop bike path around the city. 300-miles so far but we leave in 3-days.

I just scored a deal on a Jamis DXT A3 and my plan is to put fenders, rack and a Bafang BBS02 on for my daily commute. Advice is welcome on batteries and such.
Thanks in advance!
Any report back on your experience? Have you been able to complete the build? As I posted when you began this thread, I was thinking mid-drive at first and switched to rear hub drive instead. I love my bike after the build but have had some second thought about hub drive. It might have been the way to go based on how my riding style changed with this new hub drive bike.
