Mototec - Stand and Ride Trikes.

Concerning the Mototec MT-TRK-800 with the 800 watt 48 volt motor., 16 inch front and 12 inch rear tires.
Or even the smaller, lower powered versions.

They are priced between $600-700.

Does anyone have any opinions on the Mototec Stand and Ride Trikes
It's great so many options are available today to keep people active and outdoors. It's a cool looking trike.

If you do get a bike with SLA batteries get yourself a trickle charger rated at 0.75 amps. SLA batteries aren't the best choice for high demand, deep discharging ebike systems. They degrade quickly under that kind of use and don't store well. It will be important to maintain the charge to get decent life out of them. That's why that trike is priced so low. A lithium-ion pack can cost $300 to $1000. Unfortunately lowest price often means lowest quality.

It's curious why they would spec the trike with an 800 watt motor, as most places in the US the max is 750 watts. Some states it's even lower, like Maryland is 500 watts. Canada is 500 watts. Not that 50 more watts is going to make a very heavy trike a race trike. It's just odd they wouldn't tune it down to make it legal. I don't think it's likely to be an issue, unless you hit someone and they find the trike wasn't legal to ride.

Good luck with your search! There are some good trike options on the market and more every year.

J.R. ....thanks for such a well thought out reply...I've read it a couple of times since you posted it. I do have a question though, regarding your comments about it being "legal" . I find it hard to imagine that any government entity would even consider placing a maximum rating on an in wheel motor, much less be able to ever enforce it. I'm just curious as to where it is stated in Maryland or Canada that there is a limit, and then how would it be enforced. I'm new to the world of rechargeable electric transportation, and was curious about electric trikes, but received virtually no other comments on three different Forums. Also, just for fun, I thought this was very innovative. (Link Removed - No Longer Exists)

Some states or agencies take enforcement very seriously. Try riding that thing in a national park on a trail at over 20mph. New laws are being passed that will require identification on the motor. I would question the idea that sitting or standing on a throttle controlled platform as something to keep people active. Good for outdoor experience, but not much for activity.
