Moped "eBike" trouble may be starting

That's Canada. Tougher DUI enforcement. It seems a lot of people move to electric scooters after losing their license, but continue drinking, so the Canadian cops are biased against these bikes, You never see these mopeds in the US and we have twice as many DUI fatalities per capita.

Around here the gas powered bicycle is the DUI loss of license replacement. I see several minibike style riders around never using the pedals too. Looks like a moped then.

The Canadian Criminal Code definition of motor vehicle for Impaired Driving is; “In this Act, ”motor vehicle” means a vehicle that is drawn, propelled or driven by any means other than muscular power, but does not include railway equipment;. The catch-all is in the “...driven by any means other than muscular power...” which essentially means that anyone riding/driving anything powered can be charged with DUI.

Well basically we need our Ebikes to look more like analog bikes than mopeds or motorcycles with pedals strapped onto them.
That's why these Ebikes from Sondors and Juiced with the small wheels and a moped style seats, flashers and mirrors are getting too close to the line, cops are going to stop some of these guys.
And when they discover they are over the wattage and speed restrictions look out.

The judge can't even construct a fitting analogy.

""If a piece of legislation defines 'cat' as 'a small four-legged furry mammal that purrs,' we would not expect that definition to include a dog fitted with a loudspeaker that plays a purring sound,"

So the analogy would be that it is indeed a small four legged animal that purrs but in this case the legs can't really work much.
Or that it's indeed a small four legged animal but it can't purr much.

The judge tried too hard to be smart, something he obviously is not.

Definitely DUI guys use these vehicles and do ride drunk. I've seen much much less of it due to lockdowns but it was pretty bad before.

Wow. I'm out of this loop. Didn't know the Super73's were so popular. Ju,p ahead to 7 minutes,

police where i live in New Jersey would pull you over in 2 seconds riding around on something that looked like that(OP) these types of scooters are not very common here in the US, you may see one once in a while in NYC
