Mission control no longer supported?

We all know the Specialized App is bad. Hopefully, it would be gradually debugged and improved.
Looks like while Bosch is slooowly improving their app and software overall, Specialized decided to downgrade their software to rich the parity :)
Just joking - hope their will restore majority of functionality soon! Nothing is worse then forcefully getting new thing, which worse than old thing!

I even do not want to talk about the Giant RideControl app :) The original RC app was a disgrace. When Giant released the new RC app, everybody was so excited; to find out the new app was as hopeless as the previous incarnation :D I gladly hope Giant could really improve its app over the next several years... @DaveMatthews?

As @mschwett once said, there must have been something really bad behind the scenes that Specialized had to dump Mission Control. Now, we need to wait a long time to get a really proper Specialized App!

They just re-wrote the app, but I have not put it through its paces yet.
I have only used it in the past for adjusting the assist levels and updating the bike firmware.

I also use it rarely. I have had a few hiccups with connecting but was able to figure it out. If it showed firmware version and notified when updates are available I'd be fine with it.

Dave was talking about the Giant Ride Control App :) When I owned a Giant e-bike, I was using that app precisely for both tasks and for nothing else.

It is the completed rides I'm referring to. See attached screenshot from the new app.

The top one is the latest ride.
I just bought a new Vado 4 ST. My previous ebike didn’t have an app so I’m thrilled with it. I love looking at the Analyze Ride graphs but it would be nice to see them mid-ride. Is that possible or do you have to click Finish ride to see the analysis graphs?

Hi Guys thanks for accepting me. I ride a vado sl 5.00 2022 model etc.My age is 78 years young but i'm lucky to be quite fit. Just wonderd if somone in my situation would advise on setting up mission control because I never seem to use Eco. Love to hear from you Guys and what settings you use so I can copy. The bike is running on factory settings.I don't have a smart phone because i'm old school etc. Cheers Guys/ Paul

First of all, Paul, you need a smartphone to adjust your Vado SL assistance. Secondly, there is no Mission Control anymore, which has been replaced with the Specialized App. Of course, a Specialized LBS can set the assistance levels for you.

My settings are:
  • ECO: 55/55%
  • SPORT: 80/80% for climbing
  • TURBO 100/100% for emergency.

Thanks for that Stefan I will set mine up the same as yours and let you know how I go on with it cheers

As an outsider looking in, this thread seems like an object lesson in why you don't want any part of proprietary software intruding into the guts of your bicycle.

the bikes work just fine without using the app. you can ride them, change power levels, etc. the bike continues to transmit data via industry standard ANT+ should you want to monitor cadence or power without using the specialized “proprietary” software.

some people like using the specialized app to track their rides, frequently fiddle with settings, or use some of the more advanced assist modes, but without the app the bike is as capable as a bike which doesn’t have “proprietary software.”

I VERY rarely use the app.

Yeah but I am reminded of the time that R&M decided to reduce the max speed of their ebikes - already privately owned - in Canada via a software update to enforce universal conformity with Canadian law. Essentially they eliminated the off road mode. I can remember R&M owners trying to figure out how to geo-locate their bikes in the USA to get the update undone

Benign issues can similarly become not so. For that reason I want to be making the decisions on my bike based on my needs, not someone else's.
