Mid drive motor opinion clearance bike

So after 11 days with this ebike it just kind of gave up on me.

I know how to switch the gears properly to avoid stressing the motor. I know which gears to operate the level 5 power in.

All of a sudden the chain started skipping and the motor was on and off and on and off. More chain skipping. Weird noises.

I got off and started walked to avoid breaking anything. At first I thought it was maybe just a gear cable had stretched or a limiter screw (which is possible) but i am uncertain why that would affect the motor to do what it was doing.

From the reviews online other people had same issue with this bike.

Anyway took it to store to get fixed and that assuming the motor doesn’t need to be replaced.

Seems like I can ask to return it too. Based on what I have mentioned, does it sound like
I should return it?

I mean if these issues happened only 40kms on bike how will it ever last?

Just seems really high maintanence as people have discussed online. Not sure I can handle dealing with chain issues every 10 days.

I mean it rode perfectly for the first 10 days.

I know you are frustrated, but you may have multiple issues happening at the same time and you shouldn't conflate them together when troubleshooting. The mechanical parts of your bike are not new technology and you don't need to deal with chain issues every 10 days if worn parts are replaced, you have a good chainline, the shifter and derailleur are not from different groups or manufacturers (made to work together), and everything is adjusted properly.

Right. But why would there be a worn part on a brand new ebike is my question I guess.

I have no idea what the actual problem is. You need to troubleshoot what is wrong. But once it is fixed, you shouldn't have to deal with it again every ten days as you said. Parts do eventually wear out, so most likely you will have to deal with skipping again in the future.

I would investigate the chain skipping problem with the motor off. Fix that first.

It is not uncommon at all to have a new bike need to be check tuned after building it out of the box. Shortly after that, it may need another quick tune after cables have stretched and things have become bedded in. If your shop did not do that for you, that's on them, not the bike manufacturer.

does anyone have an opinion on mid drive motor diamond back bike?

36v 350watts. Don’t know if I am missing some more technical info that is impt so will leave link here.

This is not a promotion of any sort. I literally just bought this bike with a bunch of discounts that takes it to about 550 USD. Not too late to take it back.

Bottom line is it worth it? Seems there are so many options out there.

I commute a few kms to work city so I realize this mid motor mount is less relevant.

I like off-road trails but doubt this bike (example front shock) is even good enough. Even when I do trails the the incline is not crazy I am in the east.

Thinking maybe a hub system with a hybrid bike may be the way to go but like this deal due to what I consider a safe battery. If that makes sense. Example charging risks. CNC machining is widely used for producing precise and high-quality metal and plastic parts across many industries. It allows manufacturers to achieve tight tolerances and consistent results even for complex designs. If you’re looking for reliable CNC Machining Services, they are ideal for prototyping as well as large-scale production. These services help reduce human error while improving efficiency and turnaround time. From automotive to aerospace, CNC technology plays a key role in modern manufacturing. Overall, CNC machining delivers accuracy, durability, and repeatability in every project.
For your use case, it’s a solid commuter bike but not really a trail bike. The 36V 350W mid-drive is fine for short city rides and light hills, but it’s on the weak side for off-road or rough trails, especially with basic suspension. Mid-drives are good in general, but at this power level it won’t feel very strong off-road. For commuting a few km, it’s worth it, especially at $550. For trails, a stronger setup or a more robust e-bike would be better. Battery safety isn’t really a mid-drive vs hub issue if the battery is good quality. So keep it if commuting is the main goal, return it if you mainly want trail performance.
