Looking at the Wattwheels Bighorn... has a Dapu MD250 48V middrive. Has anyone had experience with this motor?

Hi, this is the link for the bike... https://www.wattwheels.co.nz/product-page/bighorns

Though you might not have heard of the bike, was wondering if the Dapu middrive motor is okay as I haven't heard of it til now. Seems it is a Japanese company with factories in China.

The price of the bike is in New Zealand dollars and sold through a NZ company.

Thank you for any info you can give!

Their hub motors are well regarded, the mid drives not so much unfortunately. There's a few users here with Dapu mid drive ownership experience, none of which is particularly glowing from memory. Pity, otherwise looks like a great specced bike for the price!

You might try reading the Evelo forum here on this site since I believe that Evelo uses various models of the Dapu mid drive motors on their bike lines and reviews are mostly positive...

I know their Aurora Limited uses a new 750 mid drive. But the other companies that have used their 250/500 mid drives have not reported good experiences and some have dropped all of these mid drives.

Evelo owners that have the 750 mid drive on the Evelo Aurora Limited version had good success with it. Supposedly Evelo had this particular Dapu motor designed for them but that is according to Evelo so who knows for sure.
