Long term ownership/long mileage tips...

Just seeking some info about anyone that has a lot of mileage or has been an early adopter of the XP....I am about to hit the 1k on the ODO. I know primarly about battery care not charging it to 100% too often and maybe checking the brake pads, but not too much else about long term ownership or taking it for longer end care if some vets care to chime in I'd apperciate it.

I am at 3000km...I have replaced the tires and the brake pads.. I repacked the front bearings for something to do...other than that nothing major. If you look at my profile you will see where I have done some long term updates..here is one of them....

Chain maintenance is important for any bike. There are several threads dedicated to this topic.

I would think that this would be common sense to oil your chain...I remove mine and soak in gas in a jar then dry out then soak in car oil in a jar then dry out and reinstall...

How long do you leave the chain soaked in the jar for the gas and the oil? Also how often do you do that?

I have done it probably five times..I put it in a mason jar with lid and shake it and leave over nite. You don't have to leave over night though it comes clean quite quickly....I leave in the jar of oil as long as I have time for..over night is good also but unnecessary. In between I clean the chain with a rag and wd40 and then drip oil on the inside of the chain while pedaling backwards...

Have you had to do anything to maintain the spokes? Just wondering.

I took the rear in to have checked. They always seemed a little looser than the front wheel. They were marginally looser than they could have been and were snugged up. The guy commented on how the spokes were so big he had to find a special spoke tool.... I don't do wheels 🚲

Ive gotta say at 1k miles I really dont have any huge complaints about the XP...its a great 'all around' bike. Maybe getting a better seat and the saftey features of a mirror, but thats about it.

I check my spoke tension every few months by manually squeezing adjacent pairs. If any pair needs less force to deform I look into it.

I got lazy and stopped doing this on mech bike after I got the new ebike last year. Broke a rear spoke last month. That'll teach me...😎
