Lock-down fallout: more bikes & ebikes & Light EVs!?

People for Bikes put out a form to have bicycle shops use to be considered "essential businesses" during lockdowns, just as auto repair shops, and even ABC (alcoholic beverage) stores, have been. The form is a few pages down this link. Apparently, many locales have included bicycle shops in these declarations, including NYC where ebike restrictions are no longer enforced during the COVID19 epidemic!

We aren't seeing a surge in interest in ebikes, and other Light EVs such as escooters and mini-Segways here in Central NC. How about in your area?

I see 1 e-bike a month, except for mine.
People are really into those noisy 49 cc gas scooters. First thing a kid does is take the muffler off. Those will go 35 mph, but I am prohibited from having a throttle now. Raging gangs of seniors are such a risk.

In the Triangle area of North Carolina, there are a lot more bikes out right now. I've only seen a couple other e-bikes in the last 10 days. The most recent was an older man (meaning around my age) on a Specialized Vado of some sort. I think the other was a Specialized as well. I probably see at least 50 regular bikes for every e-bike and I live 2 miles from a Pedego dealer.

Jo, I've got a couple gas bikes, but not cheap chain drives. They really haven't seen much action these last 4 years, but I start one
every now & then to keep the carb reed from drying out. Either one has considerably more range than my ebike,...But that maybe
about to change. Saw a couple items on 'New Atlas', developing news on batteries. One group of scientists claim to quadruple the
storage capacity & charge in five minutes. That Would be something. My 13Ah could become 52Ah?

I'm seeing a few ebikes in the Greensboro area. Wish one of them were mine, but mine is on the west coast, at my "real" home 😣.

My one horse dorp has 8 counting myself that I know of; There also at least a dozen V-twin motorcycles
that seem permanently parked. Damn, I'm lovin' this: So great to ride with virtually no traffic. I ride
7 days a week, and in spite of the bug, I've never felt this safe.

I see a fair number of e-bikes when I'm riding on weekends. I always see at least 1 if I ride on ATT for a few miles or sit at the New Hope Church Rd rest stop for a bit. I often see 2 or 3 on the White Oak Creek greenway. I have seen people riding e-bikes in neighborhoods in Cary, usually folks who look to be 60+.
I can see a neighborhood street that's a thru-road from my windows while I'm working from home. There are some teens who appear to be doing laps, and I can recognize some family groups that I see multiple times per week. I have seen multiple bikes with rust that look like they were pulled from the garage recently. Definitely more people biking.

My spouse and I have been avoiding the ATT (American Tobacco Trail, 33 mile multiuse path) on weekends, expecting it to be very busy. Traffic on roads is lighter, which is nice!

I know the Durham, NC stay-at-home order said that bicycle stores were essential, because bikes are transportation. The mayor said he preferred curbside service and drop-off. I haven't gone to the front door of any local bike shops to see if they are open for maintenance.

I have a friend who rides one of my e-bikes occasionally. He's been looking to buy one but that is on hold now since he's been laid off due to the virus outbreak.

I suspect a lot of folks are in this same predicament and will hold off on any major purchases until the lockdown is lifted.

The Lock-Downs Should End : I live in America I was Born Free : They are Telling us this Next Week is going to be the Biggest Rise we've seen to-date based on all the Models : So Far The Models are off by a staggering 80% or more.

So lets give them 1 more week : If After Easter Sunday We still find teh Prediction Way Way Off . We should all go back to Work and let them Try to arrest us All. After All Who are these people to Shut us Down . When all The predictions are so way out in LEFT FIELD : Did You catch that ? LEFT Field ;)

Not saying The virus isn't serious. It's just no where near as dangerous as we are being led to believe : Comply with Common Sense as we all are : Let's get back to work

AT LEAST in The Land Of the Free and the Home of the Brave

Check out this website for the latest Coronavirus data and projections... state by state information is graphed.

BTW, my local bike shop remains open for repairs and maintenance... only one customer at a time allowed.

So far we're at around a million cases; here's a FYI direct quote from the CDC website on seasonal annual flu cases since 2010:
"The CDC estimates that influenza,(flu) has resulted in between 9 & 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 & 810,000
hospitalizations, & between 12,000 & 61,000 deaths annually since 2010." So, we might be getting played? Try to enjoy
the national strike. Air quality is better. Mileage is worse since lifted restrictions on gas quality. The polar icecap is gone,( see
google globe) Since China & India are both very dependent on runoff from dwindling Himalayan glaciers, Expect 1/2 billion
climate refugees by the end of the decade. Have a nice day.

What does Polar Ice caps have to do with Covid 19 ? You sound like you're immatating what's his face :: The Climate Chaos Nut that was a VP under Clinton : Can't think of his name right Now : I could just say the Liar who has become a Multi Millionaire peddling Snake oil : The CDC LIED to the World : They told us Corono Virus was low risk : They are a Mouth Piece for China : Had the CDC been honest there may have been hardly any deaths : They allowed the World to think everything was A ok for 2 mouths : Sure we are getting played : If we aren't then you explain how Business that are considered essential aren't getting infected at any higher rate then those who aren't : There isn't going to be any climate Chaos that we as Human's can do a Damm Thing About : ANyone who tries to say China is as Innocent for this strain of Corono as every other nation . Needs a close head exam.

China and India depend on Run Off ??? China is teh Worst Polluter on teh planet 10 times over : That's why Chinese all wear face masks. You aren't Implying it's Americas fault are you ? Not sure what your comment is even saying

One think Great about The Internet and Video : All you have to do is play back what the People from CDC were telling us 1-2-3 months ago > Makes it not even debatable they LIED to US ALL . So did China : So did AL Gore (Remembered) He said we'd be in the next ice age by 2000 : He's a Joke : Yah Gotta love Video play back :)

I but iterate the fact they we have been lied to in so many ways that truth has become virtually unrecognizable.
Do not look to government to fix anything, you are on your own. We as individuals must take responsibility
for fixing what we can. Oh, & yes the Icecap is gone, you need only see the satttelite images. Deny it all you want.
doesn't change a thing.

Bottom Line... In the US, a bad flu year results in 61K deaths vs. 81K deaths projected this year due to Covid-19.

Thx for making it real, Also a correction, current 'US' cases at about 384,000 not a million that's approx .globally.
Too many people living in too small an area is driving the majority of cases.

:) My figures were Hospitalized cases Not Infected : And I agree the caps are melting : However we are told in the last days that the Sun would intensify in heat to an eventual point it burns our skin to go outside: We were also told man would start worshiping Creation instead of the Creator. And that God would never destroy things by Water again. This next time it's by Fire :

My Apologizes I miss-read your comments

Pretty sure I'll already be dead by then., but I hope my efforts will forestall it somewhat. if not avert it.
I think ultimately that decision is in our hands, but we are failing badly. We have in our power to create
paradise on earth or destroy it. That's what free will is.
