Glad to be a part of this community!
I've been biking on and off all my life. At times I was really into bikes, then something else would catch my attention and my bike would gather dust for a few years. Growing up I rode every day for miles and miles on big box store bikes until I got my drivers license, then I ditched my bike. In 1983 I special ordered a Ross Force One Mountain bike I rode it hard for years and then gave it to the kid next door. In 2001 I bought a Cannondale M400 mountain bike and rode trails for a few years, then I refitted it with gravel tires and used it for occasional commuting to work.
I live a few miles outside the Oxford, MS city limits and have to overcome a few big hills to reach town. Periodically I would get out of shape and I would have to build up my strength again until I was able to bike to town. I considered converting my M400 to an Ebike, but decided to start fresh with a proper Ebike. With help from EBR and other sources, I narrowed my search to mid-drive bikes from well known bike companies. The only bike shop in town doesn't keep any Ebikes in stock, so I drove about an hour so I could test ride Giant, Trek and Specialized mid-drive bikes.
Hours of research convinced me that the Momentum (a subsidiary of Giant) Transcend E+ (class 3) Ebike was the best for my needs, so I ordered one and took delivery a couple of days ago. I transferred my ToPeak rack and handlebar bag from the M400 to the new bike and rode it 7-miles roundtrip to play Pickleball. Yesterday I rode to the Ole Miss campus and to downtown (covered 13-miles in an hour). It's great to get some exercise and enjoy the scenery now that the hills are less difficult. I still have to drop to first gear and pedal hard on a few hills, including my driveway, but it sure beats arriving at your destination exhausted.
Still sorting out my Ebike, I've ordered a Topeak seat bag for my lock and cable and a small stem mount bag for my phone, wallet, etc. (planning to ditch the ToPeak handlebar bag). My bike has a headlight switch on the control panel, but no light. @drewberz has inspired me to hardwire a fork-mount 6v headlight rather than a battery powered or rechargeable headlight.
