It's fire season again

AQI am 69, Map looks good for the Olympic Penninsula. Cross you fingers; things seen to be improving in general.:)
Kudos firefighters & many thanks for your courage.

Reminds me of the old Currie drive I had 20yrs ago. Wasn't removable and actually moved the bike pretty well but the 24v SLA battery wasn't good for too long.

Left this AM for a loop ride I'd been putting off for cooler temps and then better air. Our AQI was 32 this AM so off I went! I could actually see blue sky, straight up.

I left the house at 10AM with temps at ~58°F. I crossed the nearby Soith Yuba River twice. The first time @~11AM it was clear views and warming temps. The 2nd time @ ~3PM the river had smoke in the canyon, 4 miles further up river! Not so nice.

By the time I got home @ ~4PM the AQI was 132. So much for blue skies; but it was a nice ride! 😎

Wildfire smoke in the South Yuba canyon, again. It's still fire season!

Yeah, the smoke was finally cleared off the coast and is working its way east. You have worse air in TX than we do up in Seattle now.

The last few days have been poor here in Calgary, Alberta. Clear today thankfully, so it's pear harvesting time. Huge harvest, but lower quality. Too many hail storms this summer. Not that is a great place to garden, but we try.

The smoke may have dissipated due to the change in weather the last 4 days or so but it doesn't mean the fires are still not blazing here in the OR

Also in CA.

Millions of acres, lives lost, homes destroyed, timber burned, but the even cooler temps and rain in forecast for the rest of the week looks at least favorable for helping to get them under control. The smoke was bad and inconvenienced many but the devastation was much worse and the prospect of it happening again next year is daunting for sure.

While we only had smoke here on my section of the coast, although the Lincoln City fire was just one county down last nights sunset sure looked like a fire to me

Our local paper here in NorCal reported that 5,300 square miles have burned in California alone since the mid-August dry lightning storm. That's just about 3.4 million acres, and the fires are still burning. The same article reported that there are 7,900 fires in the State. Our local AQI was 177 today with visible smoke in the woods around us.

There have been untold homes destroyed. As of this past weekend there have been 26 deaths.

It's not over yet.

The neighbor is a fire fighter and I just had a chat with him. He has been working the local fire here in Tillamook County which I hadn't realized was still ongoing. They have it done now, only 300 acres burned, only.....however it was right on the edge of the Tillamook Burn that happened in the 30's. He said lot's of overtime....

You're right... it's not over until the first rains arrive!

Another heatwave and another major fire in the SF Bay Area. Last longish ride today for a while.

It's not over...

Today has seen high temps into the 90's and strong winds across Nor Cal. Power has been turned off to thousands. New fires have broken out. The new Zogg fire was reported west of Redding, CA early this AM. It is now over 7,000 acres. Our oldest son and his family live in Redding. As far as we know they're OK, but we haven't been able to get in touch with them as yet.

The winds are wipping through the trees around our home. Our windows are open to let in cooling evening air, but it also lets in the new wildfire smoke.

Our rains are maybe a month away. It's peak fire season from now until the rains come...😔

I am working on a product to increase safety for homeowners in fire-prone areas. If it actually comes to market (not at all guaranteed) and works like I think it will it will be a big deal. 'nuff said.

Cost will be about $1000. It will provide both early warning and let you know the status of your home if you evacuate.

The news is announcing that the town of Paradise, CA is under evacuation orders, again. The town was literally burned to the ground just 2 years ago in another wildfire...😔

There are 30 active fires in California now. Our small town smells of smoke again.
