Is there an eBike that will allow me to maintain 28mph?

Brambor, I completely agree. While I can cruise at 25 on my Turbo, I actually don't like to, as I find it very hard to hear traffic and be aware of what's going on behind me. I am much more comfortable at 20mph.

I think this solves all problems re: speed.

:D :D

That Harley looks great, but sounds horrible. I would still love to have it. Anyone interested in an electric motorcycle time share program. I'll pay 1/12 of the price to use it one month a year. I'll take May.

I would take a Zero SR over an electric Harley.

I can't see an electric Harley selling, unless they can somehow add that Harley sound to it.

The one article I read said the HD had a real world range of 53 miles. No thanks!

Yup. They mentioned 53 miles in high performance mode. This is not the final version, they are just testing the waters and it will be interesting to see the final ready-to-sell product.

I thought riding a Harley is what low performance mode is all about. Harley mode range is probably 2000 miles. ;-)

When it was released, there was a lot of confusion and discussion about range anxiety. AP press said its 130 miles and when I read this on Forbes magazine (130mile, a quick charge to 80% in 30 mins claim), I was like, shut up and take my money.!!

130 mile range + HD engineering and style would be a great combination. Good to see all big companies jumping into electric bandwagon. 53 miles would turn off way too many potential customers.

When in fact, 53 miles is far and away the far end of what any daily motorcyclist rides!! I think it's gonna be awesome.
I'll buy one for sure

Interesting, James. Once we get a vehicle, especially electric one, we tend to use it a lot more than the ICE vehicle :)

Nevertheless, it is a very positive sign to see companies like that stepping in. Imagine the Harley gang with their cigars/jackets at Chargepoint stations :D I heard Yamaha will be releasing their electric version by early 2015 or earlier....

Can't see many people willing to pony up $15,000+ On a motorcycle that gives you less that an hour of ride time before a recharge. An Ebike gives you 2 hours ride time and would cost around $4,0oo, or less. Plus you can carry another battery and double the range for not much $$. :)

I couldn't even ride to key largo and back with that Harley.

Harley Davidson LiveWire is a throttle only bike, no pedal assist. Not our kind :D

I've put over 200 miles on my Neo Cross since I got it a week ago. I'm able to hit 25mph on level ground with no wind. I was told the cut off was 27mph but I guess I'm too big (6'2" 205lbs) and/or not strong enough to hit the max speed.

Will the Specialized Turbo S or Stromer ST1 allow me to hit 28mph without being a super human? Any other bikes you would recommend? Don't get me wrong. 25mph is pretty cool, but more speed never hurts. :)
Check out the Outlaw SS made to go 28mph with trigger throttle. This bike will cruise at 28mph without any assistance.

There is indeed rare ebike can reach 28mph. I am familiar with Rbike, the speed is 20mph, and it can run 62 miles on a single full charge.

The R6X utilizes the BBS02 Bafang mid-drive and at $1599+shipping it really isn't a bargain. You can buy a good foundation bike in the $400-$500 and a motor/battery kit from a number of dealers and end up at about the same price. Of course you do have to spend some time converting the bike, but it's pretty straight forward.

Any Bafang mid-drive kit can be reprogrammed to allow for higher speeds and the 48v 750W kit will easily attain that speed. Of course it will no longer meet the definition of a "bicycle" under current law.

Court J,
Correct, current law says any assist over 20mph is no longer in the ebike class considered equal to a bicycle.

What boggles my mind is that most ebike riders who pedal a 250W-350W bike for 1-2 years are then ready to get MORE power, like 500W-750W. Why is that?

350W on the flats will maintain the 20mph. The 500W-750W on flats will get you 25-28mph. Are ebikes, by current definition, DOOMED to obsolescence due to the real practical needs of the American commuter? Your thoughts?
