Is it possible...?

Hi, all... New to the forums and new to e-biking (at age 73).

So my question is this. Is it possible/difficult to upgrade parts on my new e-trike, e.g., the shifter. It is now a Shimano SIS 7 speed. What, if possible, can I upgrade to? Can I go to another brand? I suppose I could ask the same about the derailleur (currently a Shimano Tourney). Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I believe you can always change one Shimano shifter for another as long it's the same number of speeds. I like their trigger shifters because they fit better with throttles. That said, we have a half dozen e-bikes conversions with different shifters, and I often keep the original rotary shifters just to save a few bucks. Ditto with the derailleur. Ebikes with hub motors and old guys like me don't stress the deraileur that much. People don't like the low cost shifters because they fly apart if you're as strong as Lance Armstong.

Derailleurs depends on the derailleur hanger. Is your e-trike a single wheel in the rear with two up front? I can picture the Shimano Tourney on a regular bike (I own one or two of the Tourneys). Some clamp onto the axle, so any upgrade would have to also clamp on. More expensive derailleurs are bolted on to a hanger that is part of the frame. See the c-shaped part on the left.

Enjoy the new bike. Stay safe and healthy.

You might consider comfort upgrades like a better seat, lights, a bell, and music.
