Interesting Rain Gear

The problem with rain, at least where I live in the PNW, is that it usually is associated with wind. A system like the link suggests would not work well for obvious reasons.

What I would like to see is a uni suit, think coveralls, that utilize modern water proof breathable fabric that can worn over street clothes.

Motorcycle riders use similar outfits but they lack the breath ability cyclists need.

I had to drive on Monday because we had a chance of snow with +30 mph winds with gusts of +45 mph. I used to live in Tacoma in the early 90s and remember the +70 mph wind gust knocking trees over every year.

We don't get much rain in the southwest (6"-7" per year). I also have the issue with 4" fat tires kicking up soooo much water compared to thinner tires. I just take out my rain jacket with hood I can put over my helmet and enjoy my shower from the waist down. I wish there was a rain jacket or rain suit that also breath. I end up sweating too much with my jacket and the rain washes the sweat in my eyes sometimes.

That approach will not do a thing against road spray from other vehicles, which will get you just as wet (and much filthier) than simple water from the sky.

The problem of waterproof and breathable rainwear for active people has certainly not been solved.

GoreTex PRO-Shell is supposed to be as breathable as it gets, and they make (very expensive) moto-riding gear with that stuff. It works well.

I use a KLíM GTPS suit and it's pretty bombproof, plan on using it on the eBike as well when it comes time to do so. Pouring rain, 80 mph, and not a drop gets in - and I don't sweat in it either. I am considering utilizing my 12V heated suit as well, if I can figure out a good power source that can handle the amp-draw.
