But I read that even the Russian speakers in the east breakaway provinces are against the Russians now. Kharkiv is but 30 miles from the Russian border and they haven’t taken it yet.
I saw an interview with a Ukrainian Parliament member who said that unfortunately a solid majority of the Russian population support the war and believe crazy conspiracies concerning The Ukraine. All this made me think about some other place

That must be true (although I believe there has to be at least a part of Russian population who think otherwise).

(Not sure whether I already mentioned that): Many years ago now, I "met" an Englishman (who lived in Poland at that time) on some Forums. He met a beautiful and well educated Russian woman living in Moscow and fell in love with her. Soon, he left Poland for Bulgaria, where he bought a house. His plan was to marry the Russian and stay with her in Bulgaria. He went to Russia and married the woman. Because of the Russian bureaucracy, his visa was not extended and he had to leave for Ukraine. Meanwhile, his Russian wife used "creative ways" (a bribe) to make yet another visa for her husband.

The English moved to Moscow approximately in 2014. Immediately, he started praising Putin, describing the latter as "a great statesman", as a person who "was doing the best for his nation", and comparing Putin to Winston Churchill. Some time passed by, including the Russian invasion of Crimea and the secession of East Ukraine. There was an Ukrainian female aviation pilot Nadiya Savchenko, who was abducted by the Russians of East Ukraine and accused for killing two Russian journalist (she turned out to be innocent but the Russian follow the old rule of "give me a person, and we will find a judicial paragraph").

And at that time the Russian wife of the Englishman showed a true face of a Russian: "That bitch should be sentenced for life in a hard labor colony for what she's done!"

Just before the war, I was doing some business with Russia. I may not be very fond of the Russian but I respected them as people and my customers. Since the war has started, I don't want to have anything to do with Russia and the Russians.

The Parlimentarian said that except for the young who are better informed by the world many many believe these insane conspiracies. So too do many in the US unfortunately though surely a smaller number. Literature, music and sport I have always admired the Russians for though they have corrupted their sports in the last ten or more years. I’ve heard defenses of Russia based on their great sacrifices in WW2 yet Stalin was Hitler’s partner before becoming enemies as Stefan certainly knows.
Particularly disturbing to me was the Ukrainians assertion that removal of Putin would find ten more like him rushing in to fill his shoes.
You are more worldly than me Stefan but I too had a close encounter with a Russian. 1970 in Columbus, Ohio (US). I was a young sailor on leave to see the World Weightlifting Championship. Daily in the morning I would go to the Ohio State field house to watch my heroes train. One morning a huge Russian grabbed me by the door. As an athlete he was unknown appearing for the first time out of Russia. “You…me…hotel” he said so I shoe-horned him inside my Dodge Dart and guessed he meant the Holiday Inn. So you could say I was hijacked by the world’s strongest man Vasily Alexivv

Hopefully not pay-walled…
a quote: One vignette from the fighting near Kyiv illustrates the Ukrainian advantage. “The Ukrainians have put up a drone video armed with thermal imaging,” writes a British war correspondent in New Line Magazine. “It’s so chilly out there that the Russian tank crews sit with their engines running through the night. As the Ukrainian drone hovers over the woods in the blackness, it picks out the Russian tanks hiding in the cold. Each Russian exhaust spills its presence, white on black. Then Ukrainian artillery, pinpointed by the drone, moves in for the kill and takes out each white dot, one by one.”
Just don't understand how you guys don't know that Joe and Hunter and McCain with his boy Lindsay and John Kerry and his kid and more, they were all over there being gangsters with Joe as "The Big Guy" in control of the funding of Ukraine.

Are you insinuating you assisted in a defection?

Did Vasily Alexeyev defect?
No…though there were some interesting encounters with the communists over the ten days. Two poles in the 67kg class Bazinowski and Kazmarek (sp) who placed 1st and 2nd were given a tour of Columbus (the all American city) by a friend of mine I can‘t detail because the event is classified. I did take Vasily (after much confusion over what he wanted) to an electronics store so he could purchase a number of tape players.

People have such short memories. They're beating up Biden over saying Putin has to go. They say America is not about regime change. That's what we did in Iraq.
…and South Vietnam, Chile, Panama and Iran if I’m not mistaken. I think I’m missing a few even at that.
Put their own puppets in, never the choice of the people of course.
Even put a stop to a free election they pushed for in South Vietnam because they realized their guy was about to get trounced. CN
