I think I ride too much too many warn out parts.

I do 250-300 miles a week and have taken to giving the bike a once over every Saturday, check every bolt, every nut, degrease and re-lube what I can in hopes of minimizing any damage from loose or gunked up parts.

it seems whatever I am saving from purchasing fuel for the truck by commuting on the bike is being spent on the bike.

You can save hundreds by switching to a car insurance policy that charges by the mile. Plus shaving 10k mi off your car saves several hundreds in depreciation.

Can’t save much over what I am paying now already looked into it. might save $20 a year if that. Plus there are too many restrictions and they don’t cover motorcycles of which I have so switching to mile based and I lose my combined discount on the motorcycle so it ends up costing more.

my current insurance is based on 5,000 miles or less per year per vehicle. I have 4 vehicles and pay $250 a month for 500/700/100 with a $500 deductible.

Got over 9000 miles on my bulls crossover. about 1.5 years of riding. got great life out of the Schwalbe Marathon plus about 8000 0n the front I screwed the back up so I can't know how long that would have lasted. on the 5th chain and the shifting is getting a little clunky.one shifter cable cause there was no practical way to lube it so I replaced it. headset bearings were not sealed and after months of riding in the rain they were leaking rusted grease. rear wheel rim had cracked after 9000 miles shop said it was just normal wear and tear. but it was a cheap rim. I was hearting a clicking sound I could not find out what it was. Mechanic found it the pedals are all sloppy. well about 8000 miles on them rain and shine so they need rebuilt but that's only about 20.00. second set of hand grips just replaced those cant complain about that life. I ride every day ifI am not injured and there is no ice or snow on the ground. I got 156 miles this week and I got 6000 miles in a year.

i.e. the spoke thing: a few day ago I hit a hole & tore the nipple right out of the rim.(panic.´ my motor wheel
is ruined´) I had some small grommets for leather work, After slightly widening the inner hole with a dremel,
I mashed 2 male pieces of grommet together with J.B.Weld after roughing surfaces. Liberally coating the
inner surfaces with glue, I pressed the grommets into the hole. As luck would have it a new nipple fit snugly
into the grommets & onto a new spoke. I tightened it up & let the glue cure, & viola´ good as new.
Grips? Just the most comfortable ever made! After 7k mi. on ´ergo´ grips, the arthritis in my wrists was gettin unmanageable so I went back to the homemade grips i´d used on my roady. 1st I fold 9¨ of duck tape in half
to make a dbl sided tape which I coil around the bare bar. 2nd I cut a piece of 1¨ foam pipe insulation trimmed
so not interfere with brakes, & position it down on the tape. Then I tightly coil tarred nylon cord onto the foam
creating a ribbed surface. With my leather punch, I make leather coverings about 3/8´ shorter the the foam
diameter. Stitched on wet they shrink tight leaving a soft ribbed surface that shapes to hand with use. Once
dry suede side out, I waterproof them with spray urethane lacquer. Very comfortable!

Well I rebuilt the peddles and I think one the sloppy one was missing a bushing. or it fell out when I was removing the bearings. hard to know but they are back to good now.

I've also been trying out some "custom" grips. I need something to help me get beyond a normally comfortable 2-3hrs without breaks. I've noticed that the different size pipe insulation is made from different density foam. The 1" stuff appears to be a bit stiffer and seems to crush over time (doesn't return to it's original size). I'm having some better results from the smoother/softer foam used in the 1/2 and 3/4" stuff. Cutting these smaller diameter pieces and adding an extra segment seems to work out well (the coverings takes care of any seems which are kept underneath the grip so my weight isn't on that area).

My next plan is to try some padded bar tape (leftovers from my drop bar days) so I get the increased cushioning and diameter but can more precisely tailor things. The larger diameter split grip with the 1/2 twist throttle is causing me some additional headaches with this additional cushioning, so I've got a bit more experimenting to do.

Whether covered with crinkled duck tape or leather, the grips described in my post do shape to the
hand with time. I agree, the softer type is more comfortable. Sry, didn´t realize you had a twist throttle.
works much better with a thumb throttle. I´m not a big fan of twist grips.

Specialized make riding gloves with extra thick palm pads. They do a lot to reduce the vibration going into your hands. The pads are about 1/8” thick. I wiped out and the gloves totally absorbed the impact and not a scratch to my hands. Great product.
