Hydra Shipping Damage

I was reaching out to the community to see if anyone else had encountered shipping damage to their Watt Wagons.

I noticed there was impact marks on the cardboard box where the seat and headstock were moving around. When I was inspecting the Hydra inside the box I found the carbon fiber frame of the seat was shattered.

I have already made a ticket regarding the issue and I have full confidence the issue will be resolved, but is there anything else I should do? Thanks everyone.

Well....I'm both sorry to see the damage and totally excited for you. If it is that localized and eminently replaceable that is a doable fix.

You got your Hydra, congratulations.
 
I encountered shipping damage as well. My damage was to the handlebar which had a small dent and paint scratched off, the WW logo on the head tube got torn up and rubbed off in spots, and the handlebar also impacted the shock which scratched and rubbed the paint off a spot on it. I purchased a new carbon handlebar because I didn't want to stare at the damage on my new bike.

Pushkar said he was going to make a claim with FedEx. I'm not sure what happened with that. I removed the logo from the head tube because it was so torn up and am awaiting a replacement for it along with graphics I ordered. I'm just living with the damage to the shock - it's cosmetic only and not enough for me to really worry about although it does bug the hell out of me.
 
With the amount we’re paying for shipping, they really should be packaged better so these damages don’t happen.

What's crazy is that my bike wasn't packaged poorly at all. The shipping process can vary greatly just depending on what employee happens to handle your box. Sometimes you're lucky, but sometimes you get the ones who disregard words like fragile in huge letters on a box and they still throw it around or drop it.
 
I had shipping damage on my bike as well. Derailleur and hanger were hit and bent out of shape. Also had some scuff marks on the crank arms and small areas of the frame. Pushkar replaced the derailleur, hanger, and crank arms no charge. Scuff marks on the frame I covered with AMS Frame Protection. Looks good, took care of the issue and added some extra protection to what I consider high scuff/scratch areas on the frame.

Bottom line is FedEx sucks balls. I’ve had several issues with them in the past. Unfortunately my new frame is coming via FedEx so I’m hoping it arrives undamaged. Other manufacturers are making their packaging look like big screen TVs are in it which seems to work. Might be something WW should look into.

You should consider making your boxes look like it has a big screen TV inside. Luna does it as well as several other manufacturers. Just a printed design on the box that shows a picture of a big screen TV and something like Watt Wagons Big Screen. Thought is they handle the boxes with extra care as they think it’s a TV inside.

Even if he does FedEX will find a way to break something 40% of the time.

I have had numerous bad experiences with FedEX in multiple countries I lived and worked, USA, Belgium, Greece always issues with FedEX. DHL and UPS are the way to go imho.

Yup, my experience with FedEx hasn’t been positive either.
 
I’d be surprised if their was significant difference in UPS and Fedex. Can look up drop test heights from Fedex/UPS, basically 10 drops on all corners/edges/faces from some height. Oddly shaped packages may be harder to pass, perhaps? I know for heavy expensive stuff it got hard to pass and ended up putting things on pallets. Ebikes weight probably makes it hard.
 
My lights were padded exceptionally well. However somehow their derailer hanger got bent. One never knows what these guys do in the warehouses. anyway Pushkar made it on it immediately.
 
Many bike companies have started putting images of TV`s and such on the boxes to help reduce damage.
