So after quite a while I believe I have my ‘skipping’ issue finally sorted on the Hydra (Magura brake failure has not helped testing time).
The smaller cassette and new chain provided by WW was a big part of the solution. That combined with an upgraded Shimano derailleur has really solved the issue. I was fortunate enough to get the new Shimano Linkglide derailleur and shifter via Europe and now have the following parts available if anyone is interested:
1. The original Shimano M8000 derailleur with the Garbaruk cage (green). This worked quite well even with the larger cassette. The M8000 can be had on its own as well as the Garbaruk cage. Also have the original shifter.
2. A brand new Shimano M8100 derailleur. I never got to try this out but was reported here to be a solution to the chain skipping as well.
If any of this is helpful to anyone, just let me know.
As an aside, I’m completely replacing the Magura brakes with Shimano. The failure of the rear Magura brake and the inability (under warranty) to get a replacement along with some discouraging remarks from my LBS about Magura in general, has led me down this path.
I have the 29”/27.5 ‘mullet’ in place. Soon the Hydra will be complete and back on the trail.
